About this listen

Fresh from his trip to Britain, Falco needs to re-establish his presence in Rome. A minor role in the trial of a senator entangles him in the machinations of Silius Italicus and Paccius Africanus, two real-life lawyers at the top of their trade. These notorious ex-consuls play a dangerous game, where success brings rich pickings but a mistrial or a wrong verdict entails huge financial penalties. The senator is convicted but then dies, apparently by suicide. However, Silius hires Falco and his young associates to prove it was murder.©2003 Lindsey Davis (P)2014 Audible, Inc. Enjoyable with insights in Roman Legal System

At first listening I found this hard going but I love the Falco series and gave this novel a second go. I now love this story but it's slightly different to the others in that it is solely centred on one family and the ongoing various court cases.

Familiar and yet different

Falco is back in the familiar surroundings of Rome, but in focusing on one legal case, this book is quite different to the others. I enjoyed it, quickly getting used to the change in narrator. Jamie Glover tends more towards reading rather than performing, but this suited the story, and is perhaps why the change of narrator didn't bother me, as familiar characters didn't suddenly acquire strange new accents.

The Accusers (Unabridged)

An excellent roman mystery told in her usual droll fashion by Lindsey Davis. Falco, aided by his intelligent wife and her brothers weaves his way through the pitfalls of Roman law to solve another crime.

Falco at his best

I love all the Falco audiobooks and hats off to the author for keeping the stories fresh and interesting. This one did not disappoint and I shall be very sad when I get to the end of the series. Well worth a listen.

Different narrator from previous books

I didn't e not this narrator. The story was interesting even if it had an unsatisfactory ending.

A good listen

I enjoyed Jamie Glover's reading of The Accusers. His version of Falco was well paced and clear.

Law & Order Rome

Roman law was very complex and lawyers long winded and opportunistic - see Cicero and successors! - which allows both twists in plot and humour. This novel has a more domestic setting than many of Falco's adventures, especially those abroad, but it's not just a 1st century "Aga Saga". It seems to need more focussed attention than some, and I do wish it had had been broken into the short chapters of the book, not long, random tracts, where it's hard to navigate if you need to go back.

At last a good reader

I listened to this one because finally they have someone good reading it. The usual reader is shocking so I only listen to the ones that he doesn’t voice.

Decent story with twists and turns.

Bring back Christian Rodska

I like Jamie Glover as a narrator and have enjoyed several other titles that he has read. However, Falco’s character is best represented by Christian Rodska, in my opinion. There may be some questionable pronunciations but he just does it better!
