Summary

The good life abroad just keeps getting better as Chris Stewart, one-time Genesis drummer turned sheepshearer and best-selling writer, returns with a new book on his life in the decidedly oddball region of Las Alpujarras, south of Granada.

The Almond Blossom Appreciation Society finds Chris and his family still living on their farm, El Varo -- but life there never stands still. You will find yourself laughing out loud as Chris is instructed by his daughter on the way to treat dung beetles, bluffs his way as an art history guide to millionaire Bostonians, collects seeds in North Africa, and joins an Almond Blossom Appreciation Society. And you'll cringe as he tries his hand at office work in an immigrants' advice centre in Granada.

In this sequel to Driving over Lemons and A Parrot in a Pepper Tree, Chris Stewart's optimism and zest for life is as infectious as ever.

Critic reviews

"Mightily entertaining....Stewart makes an excellent reader of his accounts of Spain and life at his farm, El Varo, [with] the reading accentuating the self-deprecatory humour, adding considerably to the listener's pleasure. A welcome longer-length recording -- five hours -- and every minute enjoyed." (Sue Baker, Publishing News)

Joy

I loved this story. We visit our apartment a lot in Carbonaras. We are in lockdown because of Coronavirus so listening to this stopped me missing our Spanish friends. I wish his first books were on Audible

A great story told in a lovely lyrical way as if you were there chatting over a glass of cold wine in the mountains Thank you was great to journey back to the villages of the Sierra Nevada Mountains and Seville and Granada with you

Transported to distant climes, a gem of a listen.

I sat back every day after my chores were done and listened. Enveloped in the warmth of the medditterranian transported to the Spanish hills and plains of Morocco.

A good listen

Love Chris’ memoirs and his gentle humour, the deprecating musings snd the vision of the lifestyle and countryside that he creates by the writing. He has a nice voice too. Could listen all day..

A wasted opportunity

Not really engaging at all, I must say. A big disappointment after the sickly composed, and genuinely amusing and interesting 'Driving Over Lemons'.

Abridged

Loved what I heard but didn't notice that it was abridged . really can't be doing with these now - waste of a credit.
