Summary

From the author of the Seven Sisters series, The Angel Tree is Lucinda Riley's compelling mystery of family secrets and forgotten pasts on the sweeping pastures of south-east Wales.

Read by the award-winning actor Juliet Stevenson (Truly, Madly, Deeply)

Thirty years have passed since Greta left Marchmont Hall, a grand and beautiful house nestled in the hills of rural Monmouthshire. But, after a tragic accident, more than two decades of her life have disappeared from memory. When she returns to the Hall for Christmas, she has no recollection of her past there.

Then, during a walk through the wintry landscape, she stumbles across a grave in the woods. Though the inscription is weathered, the headstone still tells her: a little boy is buried here.

The discovery strikes a chord in Greta's mind, igniting a quest to recover her lost memories. A quest that will take her deeper into her own life, and that of her daughter . . .

The Angel Tree

Not my scene this one. I didn’t really care that much about any of the characters and I was relieved to get through it. I couldn’t bear Cheska’s voice especially as a child. I enjoy Juliet Stevenson narrating usually, but this missed the mark for me.

Just Brilliant

I personally love Lucinda's books, hours and hours of great listening and Juliet's narration is suburb, best I have hear for a long time, the perfect voice to suit this story.

Accents

Enjoyable book on the whole, but found the Welsh accent false and somewhat offensive, having lived 20 miles from Abergavenny all my life I have never heard an accent like it .The story would have been better with no attempt at the accent.

Good story awful narration

I would have loved this book if the characters didn’t have individual voices. The little girl’s voice was diabolical and the narrator used it even when she was grown up. Spoilt it for me.

Love this author. Not this one though

Really struggled with this book. Didn’t enjoy the narration at all, and found Greta incredibly weak and irritating. Couldn’t listen all the way through. Found the voice of the narrator very unsuited to the storyline or age of the main character.

Well worth listening to. Juliet. Stevenons voices are brilliant. The story gripped my imagination on many occassions. Oscar performance.
