Summary

Some things just wont stay buried.

The number one Sunday Times best-selling author returns with the much anticipated new Logan McRae thriller.

What drives someone to murder?

Logan McRae's personal history is hardly squeaky clean, but now that he works for Professional Standards he's policing his fellow officers.

When Detective Inspector Bell turns up dead in the drivers seat of a crashed car, it's a shock to everyone. Because Bell died two years ago. They buried him. Or they thought they did.

As an investigation is launched into Bell's stabbing, Logan digs into his past. Where has he been all this time? Why did he disappear? And what's so important that he felt the need to come back from the dead?

But the deeper Logan digs, the more bones he uncovers - and there are people out there who will kill to keep those skeletons buried. If Logan can't stop them, DI Bell won't be the only one to die.

More of the same

If you liked the previous books in this series then you will probably enjoy this one. I've stuck with the series and generally enjoyed it, the story lines are good and there are twists and turns. A couple of things are beginning to get annoying though. One is the involvement of Steel, she is becoming even less credible and does not add anything. Also, I know that the books are meant to be gritty and tough but it seems that at times the violence is there just for effect. Logan must be running out of lives by now, there can't be much left of his body that is unscathed.

A solid story, past books are better.

A solid edition to his extensive collection of Logan McRae books, some interesting and gripping parts of the story but a bit uninteresting in the first few chapters, its a slow burner but finishes strong.

Another classic

this story is full of the usual gore and has an additional level of bile. Stuart keeps the reader interested by the plot and the characters wild ways. Keep up the good work.

Making murder humorous

I’ve been reading Stuart MacBride since Logan Macrae’s first outing - and even during the fantastical flights involving Wee Hamish, the writing has been human, witty, dry and chuckle-provoking, all underpinned with a multi-threaded and strong story line that engages the entire way through. There’s no skimping on breadth either; the ends are followed through to the very end and wrapped up, while there’s never a feeling that the author has become fed up and just wants to gallop to the end. Every word is placed and satisfying.

Steel, just get better with age.

Fantastic, characters, super writing, they are a must read. The Logan McRae series is set in Aberdeen, the Granite City, Oil Capital of Europe, perched on the east coast of Scotland. The banter is just so funny and fresh, I have read all 12 books and normally finish each one in about a week. I use Audible, the narrator, Steve Worsley is fantastic, yes there is couple of books in the middle that Stuart, reads, they are ok, but then Steve comes back.

Characters - Detective Sergeant, then, Detective Inspector Logan "Lazarus" McRae. My favourite, Detective Chief Inspector/Sergeant Roberta Steel, followed closely by Detective Sergeant Simon Rennie.
Detective Sergeant Bob "Biohazard Bob" Marshall, this man needs a pull through with a Christmas Tree.
PC (later DC) Stewart "Tufty" Quirrel, another excellent character, he is fab.

The blood road Stuart McBrides best yet

Gripping and excellent narration I - so good I didn’t want it to end. So many twists and turns. A story of tragedy and cruelty but as with most McBride books interspersed with wit and humor- totally believable. Can’t wait for the next Logan and Roberta outing - first class.
