Summary
Two brothers face the end of all they know as the Earth is absorbed into something called War World. On Earth, they were up-and-coming duo competitors in ACS (Armored Combat Sports), and it is with those skills they just might survive.

This defies summation.
Book is great, dark and twisted, combinations of so many things but filled with pop culture references.
It gives subtle nods to gaming culture and rules while forging its own little path down a great story.
My only annoyance is the choice of music over some of the audio. Think music over tense seems from older school video games. Duke Nukem style.

Great and captivating storyline
The narrator did a fine job but I had some trouble getring used to the slightly monotone voice, in the beginning. After a bit of getting used to it and maybe also the story taking off itself, I got used to his voice and I must say it’s a perfect rendition of the character.
I cannot stress enough though how much I truly hate the not-so-in-the-background kind of sound effects, like some kind of metal music that started every big fight. It doesn’t play the music harder than the rest, so no worries you might jump out of your skin every battle scene but I do wonder whether the music genre sound effects are bothersome or doable for people that hate metal or hardrock. To be clear, it’s music yes, but only during the battle scenes, like sound effects, the rest of the storyline is in silence… well, apart from a sort of “gong” sound at the end of each chapter. Not necessary but it suits the storyline so I don’t hate it.
The sound effects might be great -or at least not bothersome- if you don’t have hearing problems but I do. I hear low and high frequencies well enough but I struggle with all the mid-tone frequencies so that includes most of the range people’s vocal sounds produce. So hence a star off of both narration and story because I have no clue how well the fighting scenes are written.
I don’t regret listening to this one though, there are some great moments and I was laughing out loud multiple times when I wasn’t alone *oops*

loved it!
I love this book!
it has all the best elements of rpgs with an added sense of tension and family bonds. I really enjoyed seeing the brothers relationship develop to a point of such strength, each bringing his own strengths and attributes to the fights and really feeding off each others energy, almost without thought, fighting back to back every step of the way.
Bulldozer is my favourite character by far. He's such an amazing lump of love and strength and has so much heart, he makes me smile, even when viscously gutting goblins who dare attack his family.
I really enjoyed the writing style in this book, the fight scenes were sticato and had the feel of actual game play, reflecting the moves and stylized fighting recognisable from games.
the narration was perfect, the variation between the tone of the brothers was distinct so I never lost who's perspective the story was being told from. looking forward to the next book in the series.

Great start to the series
I really enjoyed the dark post apocalyptic feel of this book. Can’t wait to read the others!
