About this listen

It was a victimless crime...

Estate Agent Clara is struggling to make a sale. With her abusive ex-husband on the brink of finding where she's hiding, she needs to make a commission soon or lose her chance to escape.

Boleskine House on the shores of Loch Ness has remained unsold for years, and Clara is sure that an 'innocent' fire will force the price down. But the perfect crime soon turns into the perfect nightmare: there was a witness, a stranger in the village, and he's not going to let Clara get away with it that easily...

I really enjoyed this

This is quite different from Neil Spring's earlier work, and a perhaps a little darker. It traces the story of a woman who moves from her life in London, where she had a difficult relationship, to a village on the shores of Loch Ness, for what she thought would be a more peaceful existence. The cover probably gives away that this is not quite what she finds. I don't want to give away too much of the story, but it certainly keeps you wanting to listen for more.

I enjoyed Lucy Paterson's narration of the book - I thought voiced the different characters very well, and she kept my interest throughout, and made sure not to over-play some of the more dramatic scenes, which would have been easier to do.

Just Brilliant

I am a big fan of Neil Spring and have read all his previous books and just finished listening to THE BURNING HOUSE on Audible. I was not so I pressed with his last book THE LOST VILLAGE but this is as good as his first book THE GHOST HUNTERS, which was brilliant. The plot of THE BURNING HOUSE goes at a good pace and has all the ingredients of a good story about the paranormal. The ending is first class and hard to predict from earlier chapters. I will not let on about the plot as that would be unfair to you and you can read about it in the description of the book on Audible anyway.
The narrator is first class and really adds something to the story.
I highly recommend this book on Audible .
