Summary

Only one TV interview with a serial killer has ever been recorded in a British jail and broadcast. This is the exclusive story of that dramatic event, carried out by award-winning documentary maker Mike Morley with Dennis Nilsen, then the country's most prolific murderer.

In what became front page news, Morley overcame two 11th hour government attempts (in the High Court and Court of Appeal) to stop ITV in the UK screening any extracts of the Nilsen interview. Controversially, the court ruled no more than four minutes of a four hour interrogation should ever be shown.

The Dennis Nilsen Tapes: In Jail with Britain's Most Infamous Serial Killer covers those full four hours, plus two days spent face to face with Nilsen in Albany Prison and two years of graphic correspondence and confessions from the infamous Scottish serial killer.

With fresh insight from world famous psychological profilers and a leading pathologist, Morley completes almost three decades of investigation into what turned the former chef, policeman and civil servant into one of the world's most notorious murderers and necrophiles.

Very informative

It's a great shame that there was such lot of censorship surrounding this book, or we could have learned so much more. I don't listen to books like this for the gore, but in the hope that I can learn. Very well put together, and well narrated.

The Michael Morley Tapes

You’d think this was about Dennis Nielsen from the title. Actually you will have to sit through hours of autobiographical filler. You’ll learn all about the author’s early life, all the different camera angles he knows, the football kit his adoptive brother bought him (spoiler alert: he got a Man U kit rather than Man City and so only ever wore the shorts). Somehow he has to tie this all back to Dennis Nilsen.

Slow. Self aggrandising. Dull as ditchwater. A boring ego puff piece.

It's ok

goes far too far off track and the author spends far too long discussing his own life experiences.
accents are god awful too.

Good listen.

This is a good listen, somewhat long in places, but well worth a listen and one of the better accounts on the subject matter.

Don’t bother with this

Nothing like the title suggests! Endless self introspection dribble.

this was more about the author

disliked the way the author constantly spoke of himself and his achievements rather than what the title suggested.
liked - not much really nothing new
