Summary

A new Brontë Mystery from Bella Ellis, a pen name for best-selling author Rowan Coleman.

It's Christmas 1856 and Haworth is in the grip of a freezing winter. Charlotte, Emily and Anne Brontë are rather losing interest in detecting until they hear of a shocking discovery: the bones of a child have been found interred within the walls of a local house, Top Withens Hall, home to the scandalous and brutish Bradshaw family.

When the sisters set off to find out more, they are confronted with an increasingly complex and sinister case, which leads them into the dark world of orphanages and onto the trail of other lost and likely murdered children. After another local boy goes missing, Charlotte, Emily and Anne vow to find him before it's too late.

But in order to do so, they must face their most despicable and wicked adversary yet - one that would not hesitate to cause them the gravest of harm....

A Step Back In Time!

Thoroughly enjoyable read. Very good dialect from reader for all the characters. I had previously read the first book by Bella Ellis entitled ''The Vanished Bride'' and that was so good I eagerly awaited her next publication and was not disappointed. She has managed to capture the Haworth Parsonage and the Bronte family wonderfully, so much so that the listener is transported backwards in time to the Yorkshire Moors. I cannot wait for her next book.

Bella Ellis once more proves worthy of the name!

As a Brontë fan and lover of their home, The Diabolical Bones ticks all the boxes with wonderfully evocative descriptions of the moors and Haworth, and I love the characterisation of the sisters and their lives as well as the way Bella Ellis effortlessly slips in potential inspiration for their books. This can only be done by someone who know the place, the history, and the literature inside out and backwards.

If that wasn’t enough, Bella Ellis interweaves a compelling mystery – while I managed to guess who, I didn’t get to why before the denouement – and chilling supernatural twists, building the suspense and adding to the atmospheric, gothic feel of the book and setting.

If you have ever visited Haworth, or been enthralled by a Brontë novel, poem, or screen adaptation, you will love The Diabolical Bones.

engrossing and gothic!

loved this storytelling. The reader brought each character to life and I enjoyed picking out characters from Bronte stories woven into the plot

Don’t know about diabolical but definitely dis!

The sound of the Brontë sisters spinning in their graves was louder than the narrator’s voice. For those who are uncritical of bad writing, shoddy plotting and plain drivel
This book may amuse but to traduce the talents of the sisters by linking their work with bilge is unforgivable. Avoid like Typhus.
