Summary
Pure escapism, The Distant Shores tells the story of a family torn apart, and the woman who will bring them back together.
Margot Hart travels to Ireland to write a biography of the famous Deverill family. She knows she must speak to the current Lord Deverill – JP – if she is to uncover the secrets of the past. A notorious recluse, JP won’t be an easy man to crack. But Margot is determined – and she is not a woman who is easily put off.
What she never expected was to form a close bond with JP and be drawn into his family disputes. Shouldering the blame for running up debts that forced him to sell the family castle, JP is isolated and vulnerable. With help from his handsome son Colm, it seems as though Margot might be the only one who can restore JP’s fortunes.

Another.....
great story revealing more about the characters within the book all five of the books have been absolutely brilliant with vivid details making you use your imagination to envision what the author is trying to describe thoroughly. The narrator was very good using different voices for the characters.

End of an era
I liked this book, but not as much as the others in the series. I think the first 3 were my favourite, and the last 2 not so good. But that’s probably because I prefer the era/ time the first three were set in rather than modern day. However, this book did tie up all the loose ends and it was good to get closure to it. I’m not sure all the spirits/ghosts parts were necessary. I liked the little recaps because I had forgotten some things and it was nice to think about the old characters again. Narration was good. Overall- glad I read it. Also glad I can put the Deverills to bed now!

Lovely read
Thoroughly enjoyed this book I particularly liked the Irish phrases and sentiments regarding faith and life. I don’t usually read about spiritual things and ghosts but I found myself engaging with the experiences and beliefs of others. Worth reading

Skilfully crafted and in parts beautifully narrated but accents too strong!
For those who have followed the fortunes of the Deverill family this will prove to be an interesting story. Genevieve Gaunt has a beautiful voice and uses it to great effect to portray the main characters of Margot and Kitty who I found a joy to listen to. I wish though that I can same the same about the characters with accents who I experienced as being rather O.T.T. whether they be Irish, Austrian or aristocratic English, and I also struggled to engage with her male characters mainly for this reason, especially the hotel manager whose voice seemed to become increasingly feminine. Having said that I would recommend it as an enjoyable listen. I personally love Santa Montefiore’s ideas around death and the afterlife which happen to fit with my own very well - the soul never dies!

Was like returning to old friends
I have loved the Deverill saga & reading this final book was like returning to old friends. Loved the way it linked the past with the present day. It was heart warming & I really hope it isn’t the end of the Deverills. Didn’t want to finish it.
Absolutely loved the narrator too. Santa Montefiore never fails to write a good book. I absolutely recommend this.

Another great twist to the Deveral story
I struggled to adjust to the change of narrator especially after listening to all the other stories back to back, it was a bit like a whole new change of characters. However once I got into it and got used to the change of narrator it was another great story with more added twists to the devil story.
The story is a reminder as to what is really important in life.

Very enjoyable
When I first started listening to this book some how I just couldn't get into it but I started once again and I just couldn't stop. What a lovely book it was and what a good imagination Santa Montefiore has, it reminded me of the "the old power line' that I read many years ago.
Well worth listening too I highly recommend it.
