Story
Five hundred years in the future, earth is no longer populated by humans. The new guardians of Earth, the genetically engineered Erta, have reversed climate change. They are now faced with a dilemma; if they reintroduce the rebellious and violent Homo sapiens, all of their work will be undone. They decide to raise one final child, a sole human to help decide if humanity should again inherit the Earth. But the quiet and clinical Ima finds that there is more to raising a human than she had expected and that there is more to humanity's history than she has been told.

Story
My name's Griz. I've never been to school, I've never had friends, in my whole life I've not met enough people to play a game of football. My parents told me how crowded the world used to be, before all the people went away, but we were never lonely on our remote island. We had each other, and our dogs. Then the thief came. He told stories of the deserted towns and cities beyond our horizons. I liked him - until I woke to find he had stolen my dog. So I chased him out into the ruins of the world.

Cloud brands itself not just as an online storefront but as a global saviour. Yet, beneath the sunny exterior lurks something far more sinister. Story
Out they came, away from natural predators, nesting in damp corners and in the tops of trees, crossbreeding with common cousins and laying thousands upon thousands of eggs. 'Then...the eggs hatched and an army of hungry caterpillars spread their tiny toxic threads on every breath of wind.’ The threads spell doom for humanity - half of it, at least. All around the world, men are dying in their sleep or turning into rage-fuelled killers. The world, as we know it, ends. However, humanity adapts and society moves on.

Great British PA fiction
At first , i thought i could not continue with this narrator despite being a compelling plot. i have though spent 59 hours and the last 3 audio books in the presence of Scott Brick and there don't come many better.
I'm glad i persisted, the local accents being startlingly good , well the Manchester accent sounded like Liam Gallagher mimicking the Scouse accent!
The story , well read the reviews and believe the hype, it is really good and set in the UK. Not over gratuitous with the violence or bad language, so suitable for young adults.
And no Zombies thank god !

Best book I've listened to all year
I listen to dozens of books each year from Audible as I walk the dog. Without question, this is the best I've listened to in many many months. Fantastic narration and a story that is gripping. My dog has had much longer walks these past few days as I've listened on that little bit longer! Can't recommend highly enough.

A very different take on the theme and it works
Where does The End of the World Running Club rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
I've listened to hundreds so somewhere around 3/4 of the way up my good list.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The End of the World Running Club?
The meeting with the old school master and schoolboy is what seems to have stuck in my head most 3 weeks later though I don't know why!
Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Not really but I felt empathy with the lead characters, especially at the end
Any additional comments?
I never know what to expect with these 'global disaster - survivor' stories. They can get a bit samey over time. This was totally unique though. I really enjoyed it as I didn't know where it was going next

Post apocalypse UK ...and running
Enjoyable listen and finally i get to travel the length of Scotland and England in a post apocalypse story, having always wondered when I listen to any what would be happening here. the main character I related to very much, from his childhood daydreams to his thoughts on exercise. The narrator was superb but one minor issue was with any parts where characters shouted, the narrator actually shouted too, which occasionally was a bit too loud but did add to the atmosphere i guess, just made me jump a couple of times! Some of the characters met along on the way were extremely memorable and very well portrayed by the narrator, very hopeful for a sequel to this one. Some laugh out loud moments and some sad moments too. Was just exactly the book I was hoping it to be from the description

A gripping yarn
I don't often read modern fiction. There are some telltale stylistic issues but they did not detract from the overall pleasure I derived from the story which was made even more gripping by the brilliance of its talented narrator. I recommend it highly.

Exceptionally Human!
The characters are relatable and perfectly mirror reality. Their individual depth only makes relationships with each other.... So human. I laughed, cried and shouted out loud while listening. And of course the amazing Jot Davies is wonderful! This is my favorite work of his yet. He nailed each voice and brought personality and life to the characters... after a while Jot phases out completely and you're left with only the people in the story. Tragic get beautiful. Thank you for this!
