Summary

The first in the multi-author, post-apocalyptic blockbuster series

Cal's "honeymoon" didn't start off quite how he'd planned. For starters, he was heading somewhere he didn't actually want to go. And secondly, he was going alone and unmarried. He had no idea that his first visit to New York City would also land him in the middle of a domestic terror attack, forcing him to flee Manhattan in a desperate bid to survive.

This was no ordinary terror attack.

The Movement, in a misguided attempt to seize political control of the USA, unwittingly invited the destruction of their homeland, and as the bombs start to fall, the shock and loss of life reverberates around the world.

Cal, along with a small group he met in NYC, desperately flees inland away from the targeted coastal cities, but chaos follows them around every corner.

Great Start to a Unique Series . . .

Have I just found the apocalyptic thriller series to fill the hole in my life left by the end of Arisen? Well possibly because although Devon Ford does spend a little bit of time introducing his characters he very quickly sets about creating mayhem and destruction across the continental United States in a very impressive manner. It's a diverse set of threads he pulls together as we see the conflict from multiple sides all hedged around the story of a small group of survivors trying their best just to stay alive.

I half-expected the master himself, R.C.Bray, to continue narration like he did with Ford's excellent After it Happened series but here we get Neil Hellegers who is also extremely well suited to this kind of fiction. He won't be collecting any Audies for his English accents either but well he does a great job on this. It's not the only difference to Ford's previous series of course, despite some time spent with Cal and some of the other characters at the start there is no slow, methodical approach to this one. It very quickly accelerates into the action and is more like the later books in After it Happened than the earlier ones with action and a very quick descent from civilisation to more familiar post-apocalyptic territory for the US at least.

Of course the really big difference between this and other series is that each book will see a new author take up the writing task, Jacqueline Druga has written the second one and P.A.Glaspy has also been confirmed by Vulpine Press as doing another at some stage at least. Ford has left them with a big cast of characters and a great start but the obvious question is whether the following authors will hit the same standards or indeed develop the characters as well as Ford tends to do.

I'm intrigued enough to give it a go but not being familiar with the other authors named so far it is a bit of a voyage of discovery rather than a case of following a familiar, trusted author through a new series.

Unexpectedly brilliant!

Like others probably have, I got this expecting a similar story to the author other books read by RC Bray. I was wrong, but in a good way. The story is fast-paced and complex in places with a lot of geo-political stuff going on, but that doesnt detract at all. Hoping the subsequent authors in this series (never seen this kind of collaboration before!) do it justice. The narrator, one I havent heard before, did a great job and I hope he stays with the series.

Another rip-roaring yarn from Devon C Ford

I like the author's work (author of the "After It Happened" series, as welll as others), and like his previous books he doesn't disappoint. Well witten and constructed, well paced and well researched. The narration is some of the best I have heard. Will be looking out for the next in the series. Recommended...

An absolute cracker

I'm pretty new to Devon C Ford, having read the After It Happened Series. I haven't tried his sci-fi stuff yet.

The Fall is an absolute corker. It builds up well from a running start. It leaves you guessing at where the plot lines are heading even before the narrator lets you know.

Equal amounts of mysterious behaviour and terrorism is more than enough to keep the reader guessing and I certainly found that I didn't want to stop listening.

I'm new to this narrator but he does perfectly with this story, fitting just right. I have no hesitation in recommending this book to fans of techno-thrillers, Prepper fiction and the like.

child like

To be honest describing this book as child like is an insult to children - unbelievable storyline, boring dialogue, full of errors - just not worth a read, couldn't wait for it to be over and i have no interest in finding out what happens next.

This one’s free but pay double for the other 2

I’m enjoying this but as I’m listening I’m looking at the other 2 books in the series. At about 6 hours each they’re about half a book each as far as credits go. I’d buy them as 1 book but feel a little bit ripped off as I expect 10 hours plus per credit
