Summary

1943: the world is at war, and the villagers of Tyneham are being asked to make one more sacrifice: to give their homes over to the British army. But on the eve of their departure, a terrible act will cause three of them to disappear forever.

2018: Melissa had hoped a break on the coast of Dorset would rekindle her stagnant relationship, but despite the idyllic scenery, it’s pushing her and Liam to the brink. When Melissa discovers a strange photograph of a woman who had once lived in the forgotten local village of Tyneham, she becomes determined to find out more about her story. But Tyneham hides a terrible secret, and Melissa’s search for the truth will change her life in ways she never imagined possible.

Wonderfully engaging duel timeline story

With strong characters and duel storylines (that move between present day and the 1940's) this debut novel from Lorna Cook is captivating. Don't let the idea of duel storylines put you off, it's easy to follow. Highly recommended and I will be looking out for future books from this author.

Bit of a mixed bag

I enjoyed the history but the plot line rambled on for so long that the ending became predictable. Some odd pronunciation of words by the narrator which I found distracting. Wouldn't listen to another by the same narrator.

Predictable Plot

Struuggled to finish as I had worked out the ending three quarters through the book. Too much repeating of the plot as well as the story moved from the past to the present. Well narrated though

A real connection

My father was a tank driver and remembers Tyneham well. It was touching to learn a little more about this interesting place even through a novel.

Lovely story..... As a lover of Tyneham, it transported me back

I have spent so many happy days at Tyneham in Dorset, where this book is set. It transported me back there. Beautifully narrated and a lovely, easy to listen to story.

A brilliant listen.

The narrator was excellent. As was the story, which kept you guessing to the end. Towards the end, I shouted Nooooo a lot as it switched between past and present, keeping you hanging in each time. Very exciting!

Tyneham Treat

Beautifully read and as Tyneham is my favourite place in the whole of Dorset I was really looking forward to this book.
Good story but I just wished it could have been a bit more accurate when describing the landscape and area. I know it’s fictional but I’d read the author’s book on Guernsey, another of my favourite places and thought that was pretty accurate.
