About this listen
Norfolk is experiencing a July heat wave when a construction crew unearths a macabre discovery - a buried World War II plane with the pilot still inside. Forensic archaeologist Ruth Galloway quickly realizes that the skeleton couldn't possibly be the pilot, and DNA tests identify the man as Fred Blackstock, a local aristocrat who had been reported dead at sea.
When the remaining members of the Blackstock family learn about the discovery, they seem strangely frightened by the news. Events are further complicated by a TV company that wants to make a film about Norfolk's deserted air force bases, the so-called Ghost Fields, which have been partially converted into a pig farm run by one of the younger Blackstocks. As production begins, Ruth notices a mysterious man lurking close to the Blackstocks' family home. Then human bones are found on the family's pig farm.

Northwest listener
A somewhat unusual storyline for me and whilst it wasn't gripping I was compelled to continue listening. Some parts didn't hang together making actions taken seemingly unbelievable. Never the less I had to listen to the end so it obviously held my attention.

Easy storytelling
I’ve listened to all the Ruth Galloway mysteries and really enjoyed them. As with all series, the main characters remain the same and with each new book their stories expand. An easy listen.

Better than previous ones in series
Interesting shenanigans in the Fens but Ruth is still whiney and daughter-obsessed. She actually does very little and could easily have been left out of the story and it would have been the same ending.

Most enjoyable
What made the experience of listening to The Ghost Fields the most enjoyable?
It was credible, well written and interesting
Who was your favorite character and why?
Ruth, again credible and bright. She had feelings going on but kept them at bay.
Have you listened to any of Clare Corbett’s other performances? How does this one compare?
No, can't compare. I would read more if this is anything to go by
If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
Good drama, well crafted
Any additional comments?
This is a whodunit which kept me guessing til the end.

Thoroughly enjoyable
Have you listened to any of Clare Corbett’s other performances? How does this one compare?
I think Clare Corbett is getting into her stride now. I enjoyed the narration.
Any additional comments?
I really enjoyed the story. I think this series of books is getting better and better. A large part of my enjoyment stems from the fact that the characterisation is so good. You feel that these people are actually real and you come to care what happens to them. I'll be moving straight on to the next in the series.
