Summary

The Golden Couple is an addictive thriller from Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen, the authors of the best-selling The Wife Between Us and An Anonymous Girl, that will keep you guessing to the very end.

Marissa and Mathew Bishop seem like the golden couple...until Marissa cheats. In a desperate attempt to repair her family, Marissa takes a chance on maverick therapist Avery Chambers, who lost her licence due to controversial methods.

If Avery Chambers can’t fix you in 10 sessions, she won’t take you on as a client. She helps people overcome everything, from domineering parents to assault. Her successes almost help her absorb the emptiness she feels since her husband’s death.

When the Bishops glide through Avery’s door and Marissa reveals her infidelity, all three are set on a collision course they never expected. Because the biggest secrets in the room are still hidden, and it’s no longer simply a marriage that’s in danger. Not all of them are who they seem, and matters are about to turn deadly....

I enjoyed this very much.....kept me listening....narration was excellent. ...did guess some of ending but that didn't detract from this interesting story line.....liked the therapy angle

Didn’t see that coming!

Usually I’m pretty good at spotting a twist, but this one got me! Brilliant characters and a unique plot, definitely recommend.

Predictable and Poor

Predictably start to finish. Dull story line. Characters were just silly. Really worth giving a miss🥴

Disappointing

After THE ANONYMOUS GIRL and THE WIFE BETWEEN US, this book of Greer & Pekkanen is quite pale, shadowy, boring... Lost their touch.

Just the most fabulous audio book

I’m very lazy about writing reviews normally but this book is outstanding - gripping, well written and well narrated - you must get it!

More about Avery please!

As other reviewers have written, this book is really made by Avery. Unflinching, resilient, but without the irritating cliched tropes of the “strong woman” (every man in her life hasn’t been utterly vile to her, for example). She’s smart, but not infallible, unsentimental and a bit bossy. I like her!

A little tedious

This book had a decent enough plot but was dreary with the endless references to pointless characters and way too much dull irrelevant detail. It was very distracting and easy to lose the thread of what was supposed to be going on.

Terrible

I really disliked this book. Apart from the character of Avery who was the only reason I didn’t return it, all other characters extremely unlikable and the voice of Marissa was so sickly sweet that it was almost unbearable. I had to keep having breaks from listening and listen to a podcast and then come back to it. It really was just horrible. The story was average I suppose, but predictable and just didn’t grip me. I will be staying well clear of the authors in future.

It was a disappointing experience.

This book needs more work, more depth and more character.
The narrators should rather just read the book instead of trying to imitate different characters.
