About this listen

Sex. Drones. Rock and roll.

Aidan Headly never wanted to be the man giving orders. That's fine with the Democratic State Force base he's been assigned to command: they don't like to take orders. Nicknamed the Wildcards, they used to be the most effective base against the seven Corporations owning the former United States in a war that has lasted over half a century. Now the Wildcards are known for creative insubordination, chaos, and commanders begging to be reassigned.

Aidan is their last chance. If he can pull off his assignment as Commander and yank his ragtag crew of dreamers and fighters together, maybe they can get back to doing what they came to do: fighting for a country worth living in.

Life's a bitch. She deals off the bottom of the deck. But you play the hands you're given.

Fantastic listen

I didn't know what to expect from this audiobook when I requested it, and - WOW - I just loved it! I loved that one of the MCs was transgender without making that the focal point of the whole story. It is truly a fantastic dystopian story. A bit like Mad Max with sexually diverse characters. Excellent world-building and compelling characters, and having grown up in the 80's, I loved Kevin's choices in music! This could work as a stand-alone story if you want to stop here (it has a reasonable endpoint), but I am eager to see where Aiden, Kevin, and the others go from here. The whole structure of different corporations owning and controlling the world is compelling...and a little scary.

Kirt Graves' narration is fantastic. Good flow, great emotion, and wonderfully distinct voices for the different characters.

I received a free copy of this audiobook through StoryOrigin and am volyuntarily leaving this honest review.

I enjoyed it

This book wasn't what I expected but I have to admit I really enjoyed it. The Hands We're Given is a futuristic dystopian story about survival however it's also about romance, family and acceptance.
The world building in this novel was excellent as the author was very detailed in the description. There was a diverse cast of characters who you would love long before the story ends, however it was the close knit family feeling among the characters that makes them so relatable. There was MM romance where one of the characters is transgender (born a woman) and it was very much an eye opener as the author dealt with the insecurities of the characters. In addition the author did an excellent job portraying the honest emotions in the budding relationship between the two characters and brought out the emotional side of the story. I would highly recommend this novel to all lovers of dystopian and MM romances
This audiobook was narrated by Kirt Graves who did an excellent job with the story and was able to create unique, distinct voices for each of the characters. This really brought the story to life and I fully enjoyed listening to this narration.

Great

Great work by OE Tearmann. The world build was paced nicely and the characters where amazing to get to know. Kirt Graves was as always, a star with the narration. Will be keeping an eye out for book 2.

Surprised me

This audiobook surprised me. I really love dystopian novels mixed with romances, and it's so hard to find them.

The mention of Aiden being a trasngender was a huge, huge plus. I did not know this would have MM in it, so I was over the roof with a MM romance surprise.

The bodybuilding is really great and detailed, the characters were believable and fun. More importantly, I could connect with both MCs and the problem they were facing.

Kirst Graves is truly an amazing voice actor. His voice is soothing and his pace is spot on. He was able to show all the characters emotions and create different voices for them.

Loved it!

This is one of the best Dystopian novels I've listened to in a long time. The world building drew me in knee deep before I knew what hit me. The Characters had me laughing and crying, sometimes at the same time, and the plot line was intriguing and action packed. I want to say so much about this book and the characters I fell in love with, but don't want to give away spoilers, so I'll just give a small warning instead: if you don't like LGBTQ in your Science Fiction don't bother reading/listening to this. Though I will admit the sensitive way that aspect was woven into the story was the cherry on top of the Sundae that this book was for me. One other thing: The narrator was new to me but I loved the way he read the story and can't wait to hear other books narrated by him.
