Summary
When 16-year-old Charlotte Goolsby first encounters the mysterious little boy playing in the cemetery, she assumes he belongs to the minister’s family. However, as sightings of the little boy continue and seemingly go unnoticed by the rest of Keesbury’s residents, Charlotte is forced to confront everything she once believed about life and death.
Charlotte finds herself confiding her fears to her father’s shipwright apprentice, Rees Pendleton, the eldest son of the village’s most prominent family. Whilst Rees’ mother disapproves of their growing relationship, it will be the arrival of the reclusive uncle with his own secrets who may threaten not only the Pendleton’s future but Charlotte’s as well.
Charlotte and Rees will discover that all is not what it may seem in their quiet, seaside village of Keesbury. Some of the residents are keeping secrets - horrific and deadly secrets.
The Haunting of Noyo Bay beckons back to the age of the ever-popular gothic horror and suspense novels of the 1970s. Set in the mid-1800s, against the backdrop of one of Northern California’s emerging seaside villages, listeners will be transported back in time.

A Southern Gothic of ghost, mystery and romance.
The Haunting of Noyo Bay by L.B Stimson. I listened to the audiobook narrated by Jennifer March.
I love Gothic fiction; it's where my heart comfortably sits; however, I usually read British gothic, so to step into the folds of this Southern gothic was a delight, and I will read more.
Set in the mid-19th century in an emerging coastal village of Keesbury, Northern California, we follow the story of Charlotte Goolsby. The daughter of a shipwright, Charlotte falls for her father's new apprentice, Rees Pendleton, the eldest son and heir of the village's most prominent family.
Romance is afoot, but so is a mystery and the ghostly apparition of a boy that haunts the cemetery and cliffs. Both terrified and intrigued, Charlotte delves into a sinister mystery of the strange boy, but Rees is harbouring his own secrets.
You are quickly drawn into this story, swept by the narrator's easy tone and storytelling. Stimson draws on all the beautiful aesthetics of the era; with subtle references to dress and etiquette, you are left with no doubt what century you are in. This story is about ghosts, secrets and love, everything you expect of a gothic romance. I can't wait to drive into more from this author.
