Summary
As teenagers, Poppy Carlisle and Serena Gorringe were the only witnesses to a tragic event. Amid heated public debate, the two seemingly glamorous teens were dubbed “The Ice Cream Girls” by the press and were dealt with by the courts.
Years later, having led very different lives, Poppy is keen to set the record straight about what really happened, while Serena wants no one in her present to find out about her past. But some secrets will not stay buried - and if theirs is revealed, everything will become a living hell all over again . . .
Gripping, thought-provoking and heart-warming, The Ice Cream Girls will make you wonder if you can ever truly know the people you love.

Superb
Ice Cream Girls
I bought this book because I received a copy of All My Lies Are True from Netgalley, not realising it is the sequel to this book. So I decided to listen to this first!
What an amazing book. The subject matter is dark, dealing with grooming and abuse and was difficult to listen to in parts. The story is told from the POV of Serena and Poppy in the past and present. As their story unfolds I couldn't work out who killed, Marcus (who got what he deserved!). The horrific abuse the girls suffered at his hands was gradually revealed with many twists and turns and a shocking conclusion which took my breath away!
The book is so well written and expertly plotted. The characters, especially Serena and Poppy, are realistic and I loved them equally even though they are very different, and cared what happened to them. Now I can't wait to listen to the sequel!
The two narrators, Julie Maisey and Adjoa Andoh, do an astounding job and really got into the characters they were playing. An amazing audiobook!

Absolutely unputdownable
I devoured this in three days, resenting anything I was doing that wasn't listening to it. The dog had a lot of three hour walks! It's absolutely gripping, keeps the mystery going until literally the last minutes and is full of 'what would I do' situations. Subtle, clever and very well- written and performed.
Enjoy!

Thought provoking
I found I didn't want to listen because of the harrowing subject matter but couldn't stop myself as it is a subject I had attended courses on . This gave me more understanding of how children/teens become abused by supposedly trustworthy adults than any courses attended. I guessed who had removed the evil git (blame was directed at the ice cream girls) early on in the book.

A great book showing the bad in man

It is how the 2 lines intertwine, not one character
What does the narrators bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?
Not sure
Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Angry, how bad people can be

Slow start but good story
A bit slow to start but became more enjoyable as the story progressed. I enjoyed the story tellers and learned a lot about abusive partners and how their victims felt.

I couldn’t put this down!
I bought this because I came across “All of my lies are true” by the same author, and saw that it was the sequel to this so went ahead and bought both.
It’s gripping and leaves you wanting to know more. I couldn’t put it down and really enjoyed the depth of the main characters and the glimpses we got into the others. I listened in the shower, whilst cooking, on my daily walk and just about whilst I was doing everything so I could finish it over one weekend.
I actually came across Dorothy Koomson as I searched for other books narrated by Adjoa Andoh, as she’s an exceptional narrator!
Now off to read the sequel. Will be buying more Dorothy Koomson for sure.

Gripping
A fairly traumatic but very good book. Should probably come with a trigger warning, but it was captivating and held you to the end.

Ice cream girls
Really enjoyed this book, have read a couple of Dorothy Koomson books and they never disappoint. The end is not as I had anticipated.
A must read.
