Summary

Life changes for the Palin children when Mam dies, and it's up to 12-year-old Sally to take her place. Sally is determined that her baby sister Emily has a better life. When Emily is sent to live with rich relatives, it seems like her wish has come true. Sally and her family may face poverty in Liverpool, but love shared will help them overcome their hardships. Emily, however, wanting for nothing, might find out that happiness is harder to find.

This book takes you to the victorian age of Liverpool and drops you into a family story. The dialogue between characters is really well written and the descriptions of events and times are true to the Liverpool of the day. This book is immersive in its storytelling.

Very engaging……..

Highs and lows. Happiness, and sadness.. I loved every chapter. The narrator knows how to speak for each character. All in all I didn’t want this book to end. One of the best I have listened to this year.
