Summary

Could Ben Hope have found peace at last?

That's the question he's asking himself after his wanderings through Europe have led him to a remote medieval monastery in the French Alps. A haven of serenity, a place he wants to remain.

But wherever Ben goes, trouble is never too far behind.

When a team of merciless killers invade his newfound sanctuary and slaughter the innocent monks, Ben's revenge quest quickly draws him into a bewildering mystery of stolen treasure, deception and murder.

What is the truth behind the cache of gold bullion apparently hidden for centuries under the monastery? What is the significance of an ancient curse dating back to a cruel heretic burning in medieval times? What are the real ambitions of the enigmatic leader of an organisation of doomsday 'preppers' calling themselves Exercitus Paratorum: the Army of the Prepared?

As he works to unravel the clues, Ben is confronted with a terrifying reality that threatens to devastate the world and reshape the whole of our future. The race is on to prevent the ultimate disaster, and there's only one man who can do it.

Munched improved on the last book

I have enjoyed this series of books, but felt a little let down by the last book which seemed to be written just for the sake of adding to the list. I do flit between different series and if it hadn’t been for reading a review of this book by someone who had felt the same, I think I might have drifted away and put the rest of the series on the back burner. The Martyr’s Curse steers the series back on course.

Scott Mariani: As good as ever.

As with all of Scott Mariani's Ben Hope series, the story was excellent as ever. Unfortunately I got a bit fed up of and irritated with the narrator gulping, as if to catch his breath all throughout the story. Probably won't spoil anyone else's enjoyment of the story but it was off putting for me personally. Looking forward to the next installment of the Ben Hope series.

All though Ben tries so hard to live a quiet life fate seems to spoil it for him !
He does what he’s good at and helps to put the world to rights !
Fantastic that Colin Mace is back narrating the rest of these books x He has the right voice and the right pace to help the listener to get full enjoyment from this action packed novel x

Good listen

I’ve mostly read these books which I had enjoyed but they were becoming very similar. After a long break, it was nice to hear from Ben again!

Good story, but annoying production

Would you listen to The Martyr's Curse again? Why?

Cant go wrong with a Ben Hope story, but the production was again annoying with unnecessary gaps mid sentence - as if badly edited

Martyrs Curse...

After thinking he'd found somewhere to settle and leave his past behind him, Ben Hope soon ends up looking for revenge for the seemingly senseless killings of the monks that had given him refuge. It's soon clear that there was a dark motive for the killer's actions. the consequences of which could have global consequences. Soon Ben realises he's in a situation much bigger than he'd intended..
Another superb installment in the Ben Hope Series. Expertly narrated by Colin Mace.
