Story
From New York Times best-selling author Erik Larson comes his first venture into fiction, an otherworldly tale of intrigue and the impossible that marshals his trademark approach to nonfiction to create something new: a ghost story thoroughly grounded in history. Pioneering psychologist William James leads an expedition to a remote isle in search of answers after a family inexplicably vanishes. Was the cause rooted in the physical world...or were there forces more paranormal and sinister at work? Available only on audio, because as Larson says, ghost stories are best told aloud.

Brilliant and terrifying.
This was a very different tale in so many ways.. My chosen medium was audio book, and the story had me gasping in fear and crying over two wonderful little girls and sobbing for the story teller in the book. As for the narrator Aysha Kala, she brought each character to life for me; Lexi/Chloe, the other adults, and the children who play such an important part in the book. I didn’t know want it to end but I couldn’t stop listening! So, a brilliant book from C. J. Cooke, whose work I’ve never come across before but whose books I will definitely be reading more of. But the icing on the cake and what really made it for me was Aysha’s narration. My next task is finding another book read by her! 10 stars at least!

What a wonderful story.
Spooky, intense, weird and sad. But also moments of fun and laughter. Poignant in places as broken lives are taped together only to shatter once more before the perfect ending.

Creepy Norwegian set Gothic mystery
The Nesting is a thrilling gothic mystery thriller set in the Norwegian forests and fjords. After hearing a conversation on a train, down on her luck Lexi takes on the identity of another young woman and a applies for a nanny job looking after two youngs girls after their mother, Aurelia died.
The characters are realistic, and I really liked Lexi, who was at rock bottom at the start of the book, and I really wanted her to succeed in her deception. The girls, Gaia and Coco were adorable. The setting is like a character in it's own right, and made the book come alive with beautiful descriptions of the landscape. There is suspense throughout as we hear both Lexi;s and Aurelia's stories. and I loved the references to Norse folklore. Having previously read Ruth Ware's Turn 0f the Key, there are definite similarities but also many differences and I really enjoyed this book.
I enjoyed the narration by Aysha Kala.
