Summary

Brought to you by Penguin.

Mum, there's some people here from college, they asked me back to theirs. Just for an hour or so. Is that OK?

Midsummer 2017: teenage mum Tallulah heads out on a date, leaving her baby son at home with her mother, Kim.

At 11pm she sends her mum a text message. At 4.30am Kim awakens to discover that Tallulah has not come home.

Friends tell her that Tallulah was last seen heading to a pool party at a house in the woods nearby called Dark Place.

Tallulah never returns.

2018: walking in the woods behind the boarding school where her boyfriend has just started as a head-teacher, Sophie sees a sign nailed to a fence.

A sign that says: dig here....

A cold case. An abandoned mansion. A family hiding a terrible secret.

Prepare to be hooked. Lisa Jewell's latest thriller is her best yet.

Critic reviews

I love all Lisa's books, but The Night She Disappeared is by far her best thriller yet. (Harlan Coben)
Lisa has certainly done it again with another first class mystery. It's got it all - captivating characters, a mysterious mansion in the woods and a burning question set up from the start to draw the reader in. I just had to know what happened next. Totally enthralling. (Harriet Tyce)
Lisa Jewell has made a thriller out of my favourite literary ingredients. Abandoned mansion [tick]. Sex [tick]. Boarding school [tick]. SECRET TUNNELS [tick]. Kick-ass matriarch [tick]. Clues in paintings [tick]. I predict another number one. (Erin Kelly)

Great story and characterisation

One of Jewell’s best. Recommended. I didn’t want it to end. The sinister presence of Zac left me very torn over how I felt about what happened. Scarlet is a revelation! A Villanelle from Surrey!

Very interesting mild thriller

The narrator really brought the storyline to life.

The posh accent was hilarious for most of the characters.

The storyline was engaging and binged listened to it all within 2 days!
So happy I found it included in the subscription.

Slow burner but worth the wait

I wish the narrator didn’t make all the posh kids sound dim or the lovely Lula sound so disinterested and weak however as the story slowly developed I was able to absorb myself through this into the story.

Gently kept my interest rather than being a page turner but definitely worth sticking with.

Recommended to anyone wanting a gentle ‘how’ done it!!!

Amazing and so easy to listen to

Loved this book.

Couldn’t fault any of it. The story the narration was superb. One of the best I’ve read in a long time. If you find it hard to get into a novel this is the one for you.

Well done!

Great book, incredible narrator

It’s not often you have a narrator where you’d understand who’s talking without hearing their name. Joanne was amazing and I’m going to have a look at other books she’s narrated now.

I’m also going to go through the back catalogue of Lisa’s too.
