Summary

Sequel to Tell Me It's Real

Do you believe in love at first sight?

Sanford Stewart sure doesn't. In fact, he pretty much believes in the exact opposite, thanks to the Homo Jock King. It seems Darren Mayne lives for nothing more than to create chaos in Sandy's perfectly ordered life, just for the hell of it. Sandy despises him, and nothing will ever change his mind.

Or so he tells himself.

It's not until the owner of Jack It - the club where Sandy performs as drag queen Helena Handbasket - comes to him with a desperate proposition that Sandy realizes he might have to put his feelings about Darren aside. Because Jack It will close unless someone can convince Andrew Taylor, the mayor of Tucson, to keep it open.

Someone like Darren, the mayor's illegitimate son.

The foolproof plan is this: seduce Darren, and push him to convince his father to renew Jack It's contract with the city.

Simple, right?

Wrong.

Fantastic

Brilliant storyline with great comedy. Couldn't have had a better narrator. Spent half the time laughing out loud at the witty interactions between characters.

Outstanding and Hilarious

Mr. Michael Lesley really pulled all the stops when voicing these characters. The range of emotions was done beautifully and his comedic timing was spot.
Perfect choice for such a beautiful book!

Sassy Gold!!

📚 TJ Klune's intelligent social and political commentary was layered beneath the colourful prose and plot ridiculousness. In turn, Mr Lesley's narration kept me in stitches in the best of ways!!

🎧 Michael Lesley acted out the snorts, sighs and eye rolls (yes) to fabulous comedic effect by his pauses, his timing, his vocal rises or flat delivery of sarcasm and his fluid pacing. ML's emotional acting was restrained to allow not only Helena's high drama and Paul's shrillness to soar but also tender heartfelt moments to land. In addition, the Sandy | Helena nuance was perfectly judged viz personable warmth | husky sharpness.

🥳 The narrator's depiction of character personalities was flawless. My favourite was with the text messages that were written without a 'Nana said' or a 'Larry retorted' - just pure dialogue. Yet, l knew exactly who was saying what because ML accurately conveyed the character sending the text AND was inflectionless to convey the stiltedness of texting. The narrator's control shone when he conveyed a character mimicking another or badly speaking accents - Vince's hispanic accent was worth its own Audible credit!! I. Kid. You. Not. An absolutely fabulous auditory experience!!

When you snort coffee out of your nose....

.....you know you’re listening to a brilliantly funny book!

This is, without a doubt, the funniest book I’ve ever listened to. My journeys to and from work became a treat for the drivers next to me at the traffic lights - a historical woman in charge of a motor vehicle can only brighten your day!

Sandy / Helena and Darren love to hate each other, it’s been going on so long even they don’t know the difference. When a desperate situation forces them together, things can only go wrong, or right with superb consequences.

We already fell for the supporting cast in Tell Me It’s Real, the guys are all back and are as cool as ever. Everyone wants a Nana like Paul’s...

Michael Lesley is brilliant as usual, one of my favourite narrators. We’ll certainly miss him as he’s not doing the last book but I totally understand his reasons.

If you haven’t discovered TJ’s books yet, I suggest you run as fast as you can and get them all!

Often Hilarious

So many funny scenes, which made drinking tea a risky business. Utterly eccentric, endearing characters and brilliantly narrated.
