Summary
From the number one international best-selling author of Holy Island and Impostor.
From the shadows into the light....
When a fishing boat is wrecked off the treacherous North Sea coast and the body of a young woman washes up on the beach beside the iconic ‘Marsden Rock’, DCI Ryan cannot ignore the call to duty.
With one already dead and more human cargo missing from the wreckage, Ryan and his team race to find the remaining souls - before it’s too late and their investigation turns to murder. As they uncover the seedy underbelly of Tyneside, cold and calculated opportunism clashes with the rock-hard arm of the Law, but there’s one thing that proves stronger than stone....
The human spirit.
Murder and mystery are peppered with romance and humour in this fast-paced crime whodunnit set amidst the spectacular North Eastern landscape.

Just listened to whole series back to back
This narrator held this lot together for me and so I haven't been put off by the issues others have mentioned over the course of the series. These books got me through a difficult few weeks with tongue in cheek /larger than life characters who were somewhere along the lines of super-heroes in relation to police drama. Towards the end the main character seemed to bend the rules to suit himself despite appearing holier than thow but by then I didn't much care as it is escapist fiction and I was escaping into it.

Excellent as usual
Totally committed to DCI Ryan and team . Jonathan Keebles narration is superb. I can visualise everyone so easily. I have thoroughly enjoyed this series and I hope they’ll be more . If not I will explore more if LJ Ross and definitely more of Jonathan Keeble
I can’t recommend the series highly enough. Just one thing - each book can be read/ listened to as a stand alone story but they are best read in order if possible

The Rock
I’ve been listening to DCI Ryan books for a couple of months. The Rock at times I found it uncomfortable listening due to the subject, was compulsive. One of my favourite in the series

A sad sad way of low life
A at the beginning it warns of unpleasant themes covered by the author it's well written well narrated which helps the story along but the depth of depravity which people will stoop to is horrific and when the police are found to be on the wrong side it's very worrying 😟

Brilliant
Having listened to all the books 18 in total 1 book I had to return book 11 as this one should have been at the been at the start of series . The narrator was outstanding. The story was strong well worth listening to just sad I have to wait for the next book to come out.

Challenging
I've listened to all of DCI Ryan's exploits, excluding The Infirmary, and found them very enjoyable. Whilst I enjoyed this story there were a couple of uncomfortable aspects. The lovey-dovey relationships have become a little too saccharine -like for my taste and the theme of the story did not make for pleasant listening at times, although I suppose is based on real-world happenings. The reading by Mr Keeble was excellent, as usual.

love this and the whole series
I've listened to the whole series of DCI Ryan book and have loved every single one. Once I start listening I don't wish to stop. The serious and rather traumatic events are eased by the great characters. Jonathan Keeble does a brilliant job of portraying the characters and seems to get excited and speeds up when the scene gets tense and exciting. I highly recommend.
