About this listen

Kayla Sinclair knows she's in trouble when she almost bankrupts herself to buy a portrait of a mysterious eighteenth century man. Jago Kerswell, inn-keeper and smuggler, will take any risk to be with Lady Eliza Marcombe.

Over two centuries separate Kayla and Jago, but thanks to a gypsy's spell, their lives become inextricably linked. Kayla finds herself on a quest that could heal the past, but will she find heartache or happiness?

Absorbing, exciting and truly memorable

Would you listen to The Secret Kiss of Darkness again? Why?

Yes, because I became completely caught up with the characters.

What did you like best about this story?

The different time lines and how they came together

Have you listened to any of Jenny Funnell’s other performances? How does this one compare?

No I haven't heard her before, but would listen to her again.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

No particular moment. It was all very good

Any additional comments?

This is the first of Christina Courtney's books I have bought, but it won't be the last.

Great escapism

Good English story, totally loved it. Jago and Eliza’s story a reflection of many of the titled houses off the past

supernatural escapism and romance combined.

Simple plot, easy to follow, a good holiday read, if a bit predictable, but enjoyable.

It’s a bit mills & boon, Although still enjoyable

Having never read mills & boon novels as I was a bit young when they were popular I imagine this is along the same vein. Very stereotypical and old fashioned values of men and women even during the “modern day” bit. Having said that it was an enjoyable easy listen. It made a good bedtime story. I wouldn’t buy it but it was ok for a free story.

Barbara Cartland meets Barbara Erskine

A lighthearted, frothy novel. Reminded me of the romantic fiction I read in my youth. Rather predictable and no real substance.
