Summary

From the number one best-selling author, Peter James, comes The Secret of Cold Hill.

The spine-chilling follow-up to The House on Cold Hill. Now a smash-hit stage play.

Cold Hill House has been razed to the ground by fire, replaced with a development of ultra-modern homes. Gone with the flames are the violent memories of the house’s history and a new era has begun.

Although much of Cold Hill Park is still a construction site, the first two families move into their new houses. For Jason and Emily Danes, this is their forever home, and for Maurice and Claudette Penze-Weedell, it’s the perfect place to live out retirement. Despite the ever present rumble of cement mixers and diggers, Cold Hill Park appears to be the ideal place to live. But looks are deceptive and it’s only a matter of days before both couples start to feel they are not alone in their new homes.

There is one thing that never appears in the estate agent brochures: nobody has ever survived beyond 40 in Cold Hill House and no one has ever truly left....

A jolly horror for Christmas

A lovely narration. This will not keep you up at night but a very enjoyable, fun horror. Perfect for winter nights. Doesn't require too much concentration.

Very good sequel

Enjoyed this more than the first. Very good and it’s well with a listen. Who’s a spectre and who’s not? That’s the question.

Loved It.

I like Peter James writing style and I have read many of the Dead books. I was a little apprehensive about trying this but I was not disappointed. It was well written, well read and held my attention.

Disappointing and too long

I love Peter James writing but this story was evocative of James Herbert and was far too long. The end was very predicable and the background story never really satisfactorily explained. Shame really, but I ploughed through it though probably won’t listen again.

Too similar to the first in the series

I was really excited to see that Peter James had written a sequel to The House on Cold Hill, but I don't feel that it lived up to the original.

The original house has been pulled down and in it's place is a new housing development. The new owners of the house built on the original site are artist Jason Danes and his wife Emily. There is only one other couple on the estate, the dreadful Penze-Weedells. Of course both couples soon start experiencing strange noises, vsions etc.

This isn't a bad book but I felt that it was far too similar to the original, and found myself getting a bit bored. It could be read as a standalone, and perhaps would be better if you had no knowledge of the first book.
