About this listen
They made it this far, but even heroes can’t last forever.
Grimshaw leads the North Star crew on their most daring mission. When an ancient disease threatens to wipe out one of their few allies, Captain Grimshaw and Lieutenant Evans travel deep into enemy territory in search of a cure. The Kragak still lay dormant. Who knows what'll happen if the slumbering giants are disturbed?
Meanwhile, Taza remains in the Shroud as he investigates a string of murders that could be linked to the deadly virus. Explorer-class vessels have already begun to report sightings of Aphnai war ships on the Fringe. It’s only a matter of time before the invaders arrive, and the crew of the North Star are the only ones who can stop them.
Once again, our troublesome trio are thrown into the fray. They’ve made it this far, but they haven’t yet fought the Kragak, and not all is as it seems.

Unexpectedly brilliant!
I didn't expect to love this, as I took a punt on the first book for free, but I'm now hooked! Great space opera, not jam packed with the usual "space marines" nonsense, but likeable, often flawed, heroes & highly unlikeable baddies. *****

Mixture of great and mediocre
Great world building, great names, good characters. Spoilers. However, the negatives are: unrealistic that a multi-species alliance able to affect everything and anything would remain a secret organization for long. Also, way too much fighting scenes. I do not regret listening to this, it had lot of very good stuff, more like it's a shame with these shortcomings as it could have been truly epic.

Slow and monotonous
I am a BIG fan of sci-if book and was looking forward to another long series, but have been underwhelmed by this one. The narrators voice is a little soporific and there is little distinction between the characters voices. The pace of the story (slow) and the complexity of some of the species, characters and plot line made it difficult to keep interested. Sorry.
