Summary

An extraordinary analysis into the mind of a notorious killer which set the standard in true crime writing.

An unspeakable crime.

When he was arrested in July 1991, Jeffrey Dahmer had a severed head in the refrigerator, two more in the freezer, two skulls and a skeleton in a filing cabinet.

A deprived act.

But if anything could be more disturbing than the brute horror of this scene, it was the evidence that Dahmer had been using these human remains not only for sexual gratification but as part of a dark ritual of his own devising - to furnish a shrine to himself.

A killer beyond our understanding.

The Shrine of Jeffrey Dahmer offers a chilling insight into the mind of a serial killer and reveals the horrors within.

Perfect for fans of Making a Murderer, Mindhunter and The Ted Bundy Tapes, this is a gripping and gruesome listen that delves into the mind of a murder and what possesses someone to kill.

Dark disturbing fascinating !!

This book is not for the faint hearted the case of JD is well documented but few books seek to understand the make up of JD and dwell to much on sensation. Masters tries to uncover the decent into madness but also the pitiful struggle he had to try fit in and try to be accepted to eventually disengaging totally. The narration is excellent and the change in narration to reflect JD’s dialogue is very impressive.

This book will give you a very unique view of the crimes the court case JD the man the experiences that shaped him and also the missed opportunity to stop his progression to killing.

Thoroughly engrossing

I listened to Master's recount of Dennis Nielsen's exploits and enjoyed that, so I figured it would be worth listening to his account of Jeffrey Dahmer.

I found it to be an engrossing, informative, enjoyable but shocking account of the depths humans can sink to whilst also offering balance and a sense of clarity from Masters in an attempt to explain Dahmer and his inexplicable lifestyle.

Thankyou Brian Masters.

Very good but quite technical

Gripping and grizzly. Great narration. Some of the technical psychological and legal analysis is a bit heavy going at times and needs a few listens to follow.

Bunk

Couldnt even finish it, way too flowery and dramatic instead of factual and has so little to say that the 2nd chaprer begins with discussing whether or not Dahmer's mother has a part to play in his problems because she refused to breastfeed. narration was good but thats all I can say

Fascinating and gory.

A severed head in the refrigerator, two more in the freezer, skulls and a skeleton in a filing cabinet. These are among the items found in Jeffrey Dahmer’s apartment when he was arrested in 1991. But Dahmer didn’t merely kill people – he also used their body parts for sexual gratification and as pieces of a bizarre shrine.

Charting the life and upbringing of one of America’s most notorious killers, this book goes deeper than a simple run-down of his crimes. Detailing the murders of 17 men and boys over a period of 13 years, the author delves into Dahmer’s state of mind and the motives for his killing spree. During the trial, the jury were faced with many conflicting opinions on what motivated the murders. Brian Masters cuts through the theories, unravelling and exploring each point of view to get to the heart of what drove Dahmer to kill.

A fascinating, if gory, account. Not for the fainthearted.

Gory but informative

I really enjoyed this book (some how feels wrong to say that, how will it come across to a stranger?) yes the story was sickening, gory and at times stomach churning but never salacious, never over indulging on those parts you don't really want to know too much about. It was a good tempo, and upbeat despite the subject matter.

Some dated views but indepth analysis.

An interesting and comprehensive look at Dahmer, his crimes and his trial. The author draws a distinction between 'evil' and guilty whilst discussing the issues related to his trial.

Dionysus made me do it

Well I can say it’s an entertaining wild ride I will give it that.

What a load of pseudoscientific drivel

We get everything from Native American cryptids and catholic original sin to excuse this individual

Who can seem to turn on and off his psychosis like the flick of a switch
