Summary

The Goodreads Choice Awards Debut of the Year.

A wedding in Spain. The most infuriating man. Three days to convince your family you're actually in love....

Catalina Martín desperately needs a date to her sister's wedding. Especially when her little white lie about her American boyfriend has spiralled out of control. Now everyone she knows - including her ex-boyfriend and his fiancée - will be there.

She only has four weeks to find someone willing to cross the Atlantic for her and aid in her deception. NYC to Spain is no short flight, and her family won't be easy to fool.... But even then, when Aaron Blackford - the six-foot-four-inch blue-eyed pain in the arse - offers to step in, she's not tempted even for a second. Never has there been a more aggravating, blood-boiling and insufferable man.

But Catalina is desperate, and as the wedding gets closer the more desirable an option Aaron Blackford becomes....

The Spanish Love Deception is an enemies-to-lovers fake-dating romance. Perfect for those looking for a steamy slow-burn with the promise of a sweet happy-ever-after.

Boring

I found this book so boring. It’s literally not even that interesting. Yes I love Aaron Blackford but he is not that big deal of a character. Was told this was a enemies to lovers, which it most certainly isn’t. It’s a slow burn and it takes so long to get into the book. It’s definitely overhyped I think.

Fun listen - listened to in one day!

This was nice light listen, though the story is a little predictable I love all the characters, I really enjoyed it and was eager to get to the end. The narration is good and made the story more enjoyable. Highly recommend I’m already looking forward to the follow up.

Only a few small points there’s a couple of points in the book where the audio repeats, and needs to be reviewed and honestly I think it’s super lazy to not match the chapter title in the book with the what it actually is eg. chapter 3 in this version is actually chapter 1 of the book and so forth.

Disappointing

I finally gave in and read this highly hyped book, and it wasn't bad, but it wasn't great either. The classic tropes of the romance genre were there: fake dating, forced proximity, enemies to lovers. My main problem with this story was that it was just so long winded - talk about a slow burn! By the time the lovers finally got it on, I was heartily bored with them and couldn't get invested in their relationship.

Each of the main characters irritated me at times. Catalina, for being a bit of a doormat and letting people walk all over her (both at work and in Spain), and Aaron for failing to stand up to blatant sexual harassment that happened right under his nose in a work meeting.

I know miscommunication is another classic trope, but these two people could have saved each other, and us, a lot of time by having a grown-up discussion about their feelings for each other. I think it's clear that I'm not a fan of this book.

Horrible narration

Listened to this in audiobook form and couldn't get past the nasaly speech of the narrator. Story might be alright but couldn't get past the first few chapters, listened and took nothing in, the acting wasn't engaging at all.

Annoying inaccurate accents

The story was fine, very predictable but I really enjoy these kind of books. So I can’t complaint about that - it was a nice story which ticked many boxes for me…
The cringe/annoying moments had to do with the narrator trying to imitate a Spanish accent and missing completely. Very off putting for a native Spanish speaker.

A little predictable

A little predictable, but enjoyable nevertheless. Great narrator who makes you feel the ups and downs and a feel good storyline.

Similar to hating game

Several similarities with hating game but enjoyable and quirky read, the author has a smooth style just hope there will be another work with novelty

Chaotic fun

Had a fantastic time listening to this. It was easygoing and light whilst maintaining a good story. I could feel the awkwardness and warmth from the family. I fell for Aaron over and over again and wished that it was a bit longer.
