Summary

The Goodreads Choice Awards Debut of the Year.

A wedding in Spain. The most infuriating man. Three days to convince your family you're actually in love....

Catalina Martín desperately needs a date to her sister's wedding. Especially when her little white lie about her American boyfriend has spiralled out of control. Now everyone she knows - including her ex-boyfriend and his fiancée - will be there.

She only has four weeks to find someone willing to cross the Atlantic for her and aid in her deception. NYC to Spain is no short flight, and her family won't be easy to fool.... But even then, when Aaron Blackford - the six-foot-four-inch blue-eyed pain in the arse - offers to step in, she's not tempted even for a second. Never has there been a more aggravating, blood-boiling and insufferable man.

But Catalina is desperate, and as the wedding gets closer the more desirable an option Aaron Blackford becomes....

The Spanish Love Deception is an enemies-to-lovers fake-dating romance. Perfect for those looking for a steamy slow-burn with the promise of a sweet happy-ever-after.

Fun listen - listened to in one day!

This was nice light listen, though the story is a little predictable I love all the characters, I really enjoyed it and was eager to get to the end. The narration is good and made the story more enjoyable. Highly recommend I’m already looking forward to the follow up.

Only a few small points there’s a couple of points in the book where the audio repeats, and needs to be reviewed and honestly I think it’s super lazy to not match the chapter title in the book with the what it actually is eg. chapter 3 in this version is actually chapter 1 of the book and so forth.

Please tell me the voice actress was well payed

Never have I had the distinct pleasure of being profoundly annoyed by every single character that's introduced.
Could only bring myself to listen up to chapter 4 before the urge to throw my phone off the balcony became too real to ignore.

Don't recommend unless you want to get angry. 10/10 book to raise blood pressure in the least pleasant of ways. Must read if you truly hate yourself and have time to throw in the garbage.

Jilted and painful dialogue

Enjoyed the first half as an easy listen, but as soon as they got to Spain the dialogue became so awkward, unnatural and kinda creepy when it was supposed to be romantic. Combine that with fact that there are almost no scenes without Aaron in them, or that aren't about him, it all feels too contrived and like a very unhealthy internal monologue. DNF

Nice Romance

Honestly I really did enjoy this book however, if you are looking for a good enemies to lovers then this is not it. Its a really good romance but the enemies to lovers trope is just really poorly done and honestly barely even there. As a romance though its a really comfort read and I really enjoyed myself. The only reason I didn't give it a 5 stars was because there where alot or words and sayings that where used in this book that I personally found really cringy that pulled me out of the story which I'm not used to actually happening to me but all in all it was pretty nice.

Cute but it didn't meet the hype for me

I don't know if it was narrator or the writing but it took me a good couple of chapters to get into this one. The characters came across rather hollow in spite of premise and NYC/Spanish backdrop. the female lead came across more neurotic than "firecracker". I admit, some of dialogue made me cringe, didn't sit right for the character. The audio did skip/loop on two occasions but it wasn't jarring.
To summarise, the hype brought me here but the story/couple won't stay with me.

Great story - shame about the blasphemy

I loved this story. The narrator read beautifully. I was disappointed by the jarring blasphemy which occasionally scattered the story. I also would have preferred less explicit sex scenes but the author and narrator captured the love between the couple well.

Way too long

I have never not finished an audiobook but with this story I had to genuinely have a debate with myself about how I couldn’t honestly waste one more hour of my life. I had one hour to go but I just couldn’t do it.

I love a romance, easy read or complex yet lots of things in this book were just off, the sex chat, the leads rambling pages of self talk and the lack of chemistry between the protagonists. I would give it a miss.

a solid mej

At the start of it I really hated this because the whole it's because the whole scene of arron not defending her.
he just turned and said we're done here but bitch if you cared speak up the first time.
Also the is felt really repetitive sometimes the way she strictly kept repeating How she didn't want to allow things in the past to happen again. It felt like the same point would just be discussed over and over again And it was a little irritating. Overall Lena just didn't feel like mature enough for Me she was meant to be 28 but felt like she was still in high school. And a lot of Aaron's lines just made me crunch sometimes like I don't know how to explain it but it felt like as if he knew he was a book character and didn't sound like an actual person the book character in the installing an actual person. Plus the way he kept repeating how big he was just really good my nose and it felt like he was meant to be a character you won't mean to see him as a regular person the way you are meant to see Lina.

Could not finish

The narrators voice when she’s doing aaron’s parts are terrible. The story is not bad.

Cute thou a bit predictable :)

but it's a good romance. Refreshing to read all the WHYs and ALTHOUGHs of two people falling in love, instead "two hot people see other and bam! just like that they are im love" trope.

Get someone who actually speaks Spanish

I hated the narration. It’s nothing on the voice actor, but if you are performing as someone who comes from Spain, at least make sure you got all the words right!
It totally ruined the book for me.

As for the story: I had read that this book was good but way too long for it’s own good and I have to say I wholeheartedly agree. It’s your typical enemies-to-lovers, with the perfect male love interest who acts like a jerk but it actually the sweets and hottest guy on earth.
Some descriptions felt a little weird, though. Like, for someone who needs over a hundred pages to realize she likes the guy, she sure finds many ways of describing his ocean blue eyes and Superman-like jaw.
But, all in all, it’s all it’s set out to be and pretty good at that
