Summary

Brought to you by Penguin.

Hey, I'm Jamie, a 29-year-old trans guy from the UK. I've been transitioning for 12 years now after realising I was trans (by accident!) at sixteen years old. I knew I was a boy since the age of four, but realised whilst growing up that I was different. It was only in my teens that I found the words to express who I was and what I needed to do. Since then, I've been on testosterone for more than a decade - I know, I can't believe it either - I've also had top and bottom surgery and legally changed my sex, so I know a few things about the transitioning process and being trans!

I want to welcome you to The T in LGBT where you can explore and learn about so many topics surrounding gender identity: realising you're trans, starting hormones, considering surgery, and everything in between. Whether you're questioning your own identity and are looking for advice on certain stages of transition, or whether you're wanting to learn about the trans experience to support someone or understand allyship, I hope this book can be your one-stop guide to everything trans related.

And don't just take my word for it either - this book is packed full of advice, tips, and the personal stories of a range of trans voices, because no one journey is the same.

Funny, Informative, Concise, and Extraordinary!

Jamie approaches topics of an intimate nature in a funny, informative, concise, and extraordinary way. He includes quotes from trans folk across the gender spectrum and provides insights for allies along the way.

He has a PhD in Psychology, specialising in gender. It shows.

This is a very handy book for anyone who is or cares about the T in LGBT.

supportive voices and practical information.

there's not really anything I dislike about this book. I love the variety of inclusive representation and the richness of experience collated in the community responses. a lot of work went into this and the result is an asset to the community.

Good Insight into Transness

I personally would have liked a few more studies and evidence for various points but overall it was a good book overall. Liked hearing other people's experiences, would recommend to allies or friends/family of trans people.

Fun and entertaining guide to all things trans

Anyone who has watched Jamie’s journey on YouTube will not be disappointed. He has a light touch and warm charm that really shines through in this reading.
I would say as a late transitioning trans women ( hitting 60 before I broke and it all flooded out )I’m not really in the target audience. However I still learnt and enjoyed from this book. I remember when coming out and still very unsure of myself. I went to a group and met a trans man. We had so much in common as we were on this road traveling in opposition directions. Talking with him, strengthening my resolve to shine in the world. So I would recommend this book of Jamie’s to both trans guys and trans girls. I would also say it’s well worth reading if your kid has come out to you (the bravest thing your child has ever done and a testament to your parenting skills that they are sharing this deepest secret with you) or you are just someone who wants to try and understand just what trans is all about.
10 out 10 Jamie

Useful for allies!

This covers lots of different aspects of the t+ experience, and includes helpful sections read by Jamie's lovely wife Shaaba for allies supporting loved ones through their transitions, along with tips for people who have little experience with trans people and aren't sure how to talk about it or react when they slip up, for instance. Having been close to a fair few trans people, there were still nuggets of information that I wasn't previously aware of, and hearing all of the information from the perspectives of trans people at once has been invaluable in understanding the range of experiences, and had I not spent lots of time with trans friends and unfortunately seen some of the hard choices, waiting lists and microaggressions they face, this book would be super important in learning about those, too. I can only speculate that this book would be useful for "baby trans" people, and cis people who don't know much about the topic, but I know it was useful for me!

So good I consumed in one sitting!

Thankyou Jamie for a beautifully candid and informative journey. It was touching to see the inclusive language and special chapter covering my experiences as a non-binary person. Thankyou Jamie (and Shaaba!), from a longtime subscriber of both of you!

Amazing book, a wonderful overview and great place to start

So proud of you Jamie! I really enjoyed this book and it is absolutely packed full of information which is presented in an informal and conversational way. If you’re trying to become more informed about trans people, become a better ally, or are a trans person yourself and need somewhere to begin this book is perfect for you. As someone who has watched almost every YouTube video of Jamie’s I didn’t learn much new but I don’t mind, I’m sure the extra source material will contain new avenues of information, and it’s so nice to have the information delivered in such a concise way and hear extra personal tidbits. It has my seal of approval no matter who you are or where you’re coming from.

an incredibly important book.

super comforting listen about a super impactful topic. brought me right back to the early days of my realization about my queerness, but not in the bad, scary ways, in the nice fluffy nostalgic ways. I'd strongly recommend this to anyone, but especially if you're a freshly gnc person.
