About this listen
Brought to you by Penguin.
In this bestselling audiobook read by the author, Gary Stevenson relives his time on the trading floor with raw honesty, gritty humour and true conviction.
An outrageous, white-knuckle journey to the dark heart of an intoxicating world - from someone who survived the trading game and then blew it all wide open
Ever since he was a kid, kicking broken footballs on the streets of East London in the shadow of Canary Wharf's skyscrapers, Gary wanted something better. Something a whole lot bigger.
Then he won a competition run by a bank: 'The Trading Game'. The prize: a golden ticket to a new life, as the youngest trader in the whole city. A place where you could make more money than you'd ever imagined. Where your colleagues are dysfunctional maths geniuses, overfed public schoolboys and borderline psychopaths, yet they start to feel like family. Where soon you're the bank's most profitable trader, dealing in nearly a trillion dollars. A day. Where you dream of numbers in your sleep - and then stop sleeping at all.
But what happens when winning starts to feel like losing? When the easiest way to make money is to bet on millions becoming poorer and poorer - and, as the economy starts slipping off a precipice, your own sanity starts slipping with it? You want to stop, but you can't. Because nobody ever leaves.
Would you stick, or quit? Even if it meant risking everything?
This is an outrageous, unvarnished, white-knuckle journey to the dark heart of an intoxicating world - from someone who survived the game and then blew it all wide open.
'An unforgettable story of greed, financial madness and moral decay' Rory Stewart
'Hilarious, shocking and deeply sad — often in the same sentence' Sunday Times
'The Wolf of Wall Street with a moral compass' Irvine Welsh

Genuinely the Best audio book, I’ve heard!
A brilliant story of Gary’s trading life from start to finish. I really like it how his thoughts and regular analysis take place throughout the story. Unlike other authors who are attempt to reveal these occasions in the most intellectual way possible, Gary just reveals them as they would naturally in life in a real unpolished manner with lots of questions and unknown answers.
For me this massively adds to the depth of the story as you find yourself listening as if your in his situation.
Cracking book, well done fella !

Pure honesty in a dishonest world
Gary's book is a breath of fresh air in this murky world we live in. it's the first book in a long time I was eager to carry on listening to. You really get a sense of the torment his meteoric rise to wealth created in him and his concern for inequality that pervades society..

Utterly engrossing story. Detailed examination of a perilous mental state which leaves you unsure how you feel about every single aspect of the book

The Truth is out there, Super book..
The Truth is out there, so are lies. Super book. I worked in London all my working life and
Garys story is spot on. Its a Jungle out there, and Gazzas story takes you right through that very jungle.
I am happy to done with the city, the story really took me back, the highs and low. The pain and joy. The larger
than life characters, the intensity of it all. thanks for sharing your experiences. thanks for the rollercoaster ride..

This is as good as the reviews imply
I very much enjoyed this audio book.
It rattles along without any tedious periods.
It is a fascinating story, eloquently told, brilliantly narrated and with many larger than life characters.
The evocative descriptions even engender a few laugh out loud moments.
A future Netflix miniseries without a doubt, but best to experience it in its original form now.

Front row view of economic collapse
Excellent and entertaining autobiography. Probably better to get to read it than to have had to live it.
Gives you a real insight into what went wrong and us still going wrong in our society's economy and politics.

Entertaining and an accurate depiction.
For those readers not familiar with the trading/broker world, as much as the story might seem outlandish, it most certainly isn’t. The author captures my own experiences in the industry beautifully, including my many visits to Tokyo. His narration is superb, especially his Scouse and Japanglish. A great thought provoking listen!
