About this listen

A huge funeral for Windermere’s popular resident, Barbara Dodge, is taking place, and florist Persimmon 'Simmy' Brown and her new assistant, Bonnie Lawson, are busy compiling wreaths in preparation.

There’s word of a series of sinister dognappings occurring in nearby Troutbeck, and whilst taking a walk up Wansfell Pike, Simmy and her father, Russell, stumble on a dog strangled to death - it’s not long before Simmy reluctantly finds herself caught up in a murder investigation....

Good Characters but Convoluted<br />

Enjoyed this Rebecca Tobe, but the puzzles were at times not only convoluted for the team of three amateur sleuths, but also for the listener/reader.
Most enjoyed the first stage of unravelling in the Upper Room.

Troutbeck Testimony

Very good listen/read. I was kept guessing right to the end. Tied in with the other books in the series but could be read alone.

An entertaining series

This wasn’t the best in this series, which is set in the Lake District, well described and with a feel for the local community. The plot here seemed to involve too many similarly shady and not very interesting characters, and the florist heroine, Persimmon, was irritable and critical throughout. In the earlier books, she’s much more sympathetic. So, don’t read this on its own, but do read the series. I think this story will have been a staging post for Persimmon, and better things are to come.
The narrator is good on the whole, although she makes one of the young male characters persistently belligerent in tone.
