About this listen
"He said if he hadn't heard from you by high noon today, he was going to strap on his six-guns and ride back into town. So I think you should call him, Charlie. Call him before you come home."
Charlie Hills, former desk sergeant at Kings Lake Central, is in trouble. He hasn't told Smith, his old friend and sparring partner, but someone has, and now the two former policemen are about to embark on a difficult and potentially dangerous search for the truth. For one of them, it could be life-changing.

Entertaining and Thought Provoking
I have found this series to be one of the better examples of Crime genre novels that I have ever followed.
The main character, Dc Smith, is so multi layered and does not give up his secrets lightly.
A thoroughly enjoyable audible production, beautifully narrated by Gildart Jackson.

A story viewed from a different angle
Same characters but from a very different perspective. Good story with tense chapters which held you all the way through.

Another top notch listen
I love this series, I like the main characters and their interactions with one another. The stories start off seemingly straightforward and as the plot moves on they get more convoluted but in a very plausible way. The narrator is never less than excellent. I’m sad I’ve only got one more in the series to go. Highly recommended

Brilliant to the end.
Exceptional narration of an excellent title. I did guess the outcome though, but it didn't spoil it for me. Anxious now to move onto the next in the series. Highly recommended!

How wonderful that Peter Grainger can come up with new storylines with each novel. Loved this book and the excellent narration

DC changes sides!
It will take me a while to get used to DC as a private detective - still another great chapter in this series though.

Another absolute smasher.
Another amazing book. loved it, DCs jokes and intriguing plot with absolutely flawless narration. Some very atmospheric scene setting, a realistic romance to interesting character development. Not sure it could be improved.

DOES character. The narrator does him very well.
I dislike that the book is set in England but words are spoken in the American way. Buoy pronounced booey, mobile pronounced mobil.
Also the continual way the author calls young women girls. A woman of 18 years and over is not a girl, and certainly a woman over the age of 25 is not a girl. A strong streak of patriarchy I'm afraid.
