About this listen
He did kill. Kill and kill and kill.
Tess’ number one priority has always been her three-year-old daughter, Poppy. But splitting up with Poppy’s father, Jason, means that she cannot always be there to keep her daughter safe.
When she finds a disturbing drawing, dark and menacing, among her daughter’s brightly coloured paintings, Tess is convinced that Poppy has witnessed something terrible. Something that her young mind is struggling to put into words.
But no one will listen. It’s only a child’s drawing, isn’t it?
Tess will protect Poppy, whatever the price. But when she doesn’t know what, or who, she is protecting her from, how can she possibly know who to trust?

It was okay
The narrator was good. I didn’t think much of the plot and I guessed the ending.

Tense but real
Characters were believable. Gripping plot. Performance was excellent and made listening easy. Nicci French at top of their game!

nicki French at their best
I loved the narrator, unloved the story and was relieved that Nicci French is back albeit with a slightly gentler tone!

Terrible narrator
The story was ok and I would have enjoyed it more had the narrator had put more feeling into her voice. She sounded as if she was bored with her one tone voice. I was, it did no justice to the book.

Excellent
I’ve always loved Nicci French thrillers, perhaps not so fond of the female detective series, but this one is excellent. Exciting and well narrated. I found it difficult to put down. In addition to which I didn’t want it to finish which is always the test of a good book . The problem I’m faced with now is to find something which is comparable...a difficult task indeed.

Anti climax ending
No plot twist whatsoever. So many crazy ways it could have gone and yet another flat ending. I wonder when will the authors appreciate the really skilled build up they do throughout the book in order to stop ruining the endings with all these emotionless techniques. The ending is so flat and unrealistic it seems as if they actually have no idea what it feels like to be in these kind of situations. Not to mention that the whole Tess is another Frieda Klein under a different name. Be creative cause it is getting boring at this point.

A good domestic thriller, brilliantly narrated
The story is well written and suspenseful - thank goodness Nicci French has got away from the obnoxious Frieda Klein -, with pleasant domestic detail. And, above all, it is brilliantly narrated. I cannot praise the reader too highly; she doesn't overact, she doesn't try to differentiate vocally between young and old, male and female characters, or between people who she decides will have different regional accents (despite which we always know who is speaking). Instead she reads us the story, without histrionics, without over-emphasis, without frills. More readers like Olivia Vinall, please!

Save your credit
In parts it sounded as if the authors had been told they had to write 3,000 words that day and it was getting late and they were tired. The listing of contents in kitchen drawers and bathroom cabinets at one point went so far past tedious it became funny.
I found the lead character very irritating and her interactions with the authorities totally unbelievable.
If it had been in print and I’d been reading it I doubt I would have made it to halfway through,

Alright
An ok story. Quite predictable. I found the things Tess allowed her daughter to say to people quote surprising. She basically let her 3 year old be rude to everyone without ever correcting her.
Otherwise ok
