Story
After winning two wars against the Nemovorti, Minalan plans an expedition to The Lost Valley of Anghysbel, in the far north of his realm. It's there, in the caldera of a supervolcano at the edge of the tundra, he suspects many of the answers he so desperately needs might be hidden. The only problem is that thanks to the anti-magical properties of the jevolar, his spells won’t work; he’ll be without magic for the first time since he came into his Talent.

Story
From the moment Dara of Westwood spied the Silver Headed Raptor nesting in Rundeval Peak, the precocious redheaded 12-year-old girl was enchanted. The youngest daughter of the Master of the Wood lived in ramshackle Westwood Hall, in the independently minded Westwood estate of Sevendor. Her determination to capture a baby falcon and train it wasn’t hampered by the fact that Dara had never climbed a mountain, had never been trained in falconry, or even remotely had permission from her father to do it.

Story
The ancient magic of wizards was anything but dark. It was the enlightenment that lifted humanity from the squalor of superstition, and the worship of fell spirits and capricious gods, but those days are gone. The shining glory of the sorcerers burned away the subtlety of wisdom, replacing it with easy power, held only in the hands of the elite - a new age built upon the elemental supremacy of aristocrats and the ignorance of the masses.

Story
Young Cally is an apprentice within the most unusual order of sorcerers in the known world: the only one that forbids its members from using their powers to kill. Despite his lowly status, Cally's chosen by the Master of the Order to join a delegation to see their allies the Lannovians. The meeting will be historic: 60 years ago, the Order's enemies attacked them with a host of demons, forcing the Order to trap the monsters inside their own citadel and seal it shut with impenetrable wards. The trick worked so well the Order hasn't been able to get it back open since.

Story
In the realm of Isodoro, just two things stand between Alliance lands and the spears and muskets of the orcish hordes: the wizards of the Order and constant infighting amongst the orcs themselves. In the Alliance capital, young Wit has just been promoted from apprentice to full wizard - and saddled with the very unglamorous task of traveling to a distant iron mine to inspect it for fraud. Worse yet, he's partnered with Wa'llach, a drunken dwarven prisoner who's killed more people than most plagues. Yet those skills are about to become very handy.

Story
An inn is a place to rest, a place to talk and share stories, a place to find adventure, or a starting ground for quests and legends. It is in this world, at least. To Erin Solstice, an inn seems like a medieval relic from the past. But here she is, running from Goblins and trying to survive in a world full of monsters and magic. She’d be more excited about all of this if everything wasn’t trying to kill her. But an inn is what she’s found, and so that’s what she becomes; an innkeeper, who serves drinks to heroes and monsters. Mostly monsters. But it’s a living, right?

Eric didn't ask to be a vampire. In fact he didn't even believe in them. Biting your own tongue with your fangs does a lot of convincing. Even so, being a part-time undead isn't as easy as you might think. It can let you hold down a day job, true, but sometimes the night "life" can be more than a little difficult, what with those bloodthirsty urges and predatory instincts kicking in.

Story
Centuries ago, the murder of a beloved king tore apart the Kingdom of Caledun. The land was plunged into chaos and thousands perished. A new order was established in an attempt to return Caledun to its former glory. It failed, but in its place rose the beginnings of the Code. During this same period, the mystical caretakers of the Great Wood retreated from the world of Kal Maran, their disappearance an ominous harbinger of the suffering that was to follow. The Great Wood now grows out of control. Cities, towns, and villages have fallen before the relentless march of the forest.

Summary
The second Spellmonger anthology!
It is said by some that the Spellmonger’s exile to the Magelaw left Sevendor, the City of Magic, unprotected in his absence.
That would be untrue, for though the mightiest mage of the era was forced by law and custom to refrain from visiting his realm in Castal, he left behind a significant body of learned and dedicated colleagues to continue his policies and see to the protection of the magelands. These were not all warmagi, nor even High Magi; indeed, the strength of Sevendor depended on magi of all types and descriptions.
As Minalan fought against the darkest foes in the West, his lands in the east were protected by his vassals, allies, and friends. Their powers varied, as did their station. But they were uniformly devoted to Minalan the Spellmonger and the land he had wrought. They kept watch against secret incursions or hidden dangers against the realm while the Spellmonger’s strength was elsewhere. Whilst he grappled with the fearsome minions of Korbal the Necromancer, his magical land was well-warded by the famous Wizards of Sevendor.
From the Heeth the Arcanist’s History of the Magelands.

Can you be not happy while giving 5 stars?
An "Anthology" - or a few short stories to keep you going while you wait for the next book. They have done a few of these and we bought them too so lets keep milking this while we can!
So why am I giving it 5* ? Because its still brilliant - it really adds to the overall storyline and I loved it and it has John Lee doing my favourite characters again ....
Criticism? Why isnt it a new book? When is the new book? Why isnt it longer? When can I have more of my favourite characters and more of John Lee?
This is a starter when you are starving .... but it will do until the next real one comes

Over too soon! Totally recommend it.
Like many fans of the Spellmonger series, I am always eagerly awaiting stories from this universe especially from the main series. This isn't a book from the main series but a wonderful segue away from Minalan to some less explored characters.
I am not normally a fan of short stories but this is just great and I really believe it adds depth to the world.
It has tided me over while I wait for the next book from the main series and more than that it has been such a pleasure to listen to.

A bit disappointing
I feel like these .5 books should of been made at the end of the series and into 1 big book. It's disappointing that this isn't a continuation of the main story.
This book is about a collection of side characters while Minalan is banned from returning to Sevendor. I'm not interested in these stories whatsoever, but they aren't bad stories. I really wish it could of been about tindel or even better, the continuation of the main story. I really hope book 13 is soon to follow. I didn't bother with the other .5 book and I kinda wish I did the same with this.

Great Background , but....
This is quite a large world Terry Mancour has created. I also get frustrated with these books that are tangential to the main story. These stories are not needed, but they do add so much more flavor to this wonderful world....but I want to know more!
I have invested myself in so many TV shows, Movies and book series that never get completed, and there is at least 4 or 5 more books needed just to complete this main story line to its natural conclusion. I am already getting old!
This is ,by far, the best detailed book series I have ever heard. "Please, may I have some more sir!"

Another Great Anthology
Terry Mancour continues to impress with these anthologies between mainline books. My only complaint is that they don’t last long enough. I admire his world building ability as Calidor increases to grow. This is a must listen for the series.
