Good Book - Good Narration

Let me start by saying that I don't like or read romance, chicklit or the type of books aimed at the female market and I avoided Dorothy Koomson for a long time because I thought her books were on that side of the fence (they aren't). That changed with the Ice Cream Girls I'd missed it in on TV was audibook shopping and thought I'd take a punt and am so glad I did :)

With The Woman He Loved Before I've read or listened and enjoyed all of Dorothy Koomson's books. The quality of story, characters etc is consistent in every book. I like her style of writing which tells the story from different perspectives. The twists and turns in the story are refreshing in oh so many books they are either predictable, unrealistic or foced with a scrabble to tie things up before the end and I'm left wondering why something that seemed an important part back in Chapter 10 is ignored and not resolved - not so with Ms Koomson's books she pays attention to the detail and nothing is ever quite what you think her story flows as a result.

Adjoa Andoh has a beautiful voice not only easy on the ear but pleasing to the ear. Her narration... like the book... just flows. She tops my list as my favourite female narrator and is absolutely the perfect voice for Ms Koomson's books.

So good

I loved this book. The narrator was excellent - her expressions and the accents and voices she used added so much to an already addictive story. The two main female characters were very likeable and the story moved at a fast pace with no let up. I didn't want to stop listening and was sorry when it was over. Thought provoking, sweet and sinister all in one book!

Loved it!!

This book is amazing, I listened to it in 2 days I just couldn't stop. Don't think I would describe this as chic lit although the first 20 mins is so don't be put off. Its got fantastic characters people I really empathised with, each with their own tale to tell. The narrator is fantastic she brings the people to life

An interesting story

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes I would. The story has enough twists and turns to keep you listening and wondering what will happen.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Libby, she had a strength to her underneath her vulnerability.

What about Adjoa Andoh’s performance did you like?

She is so clever to produce different accents and subtly different voices.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No, I liked a daily dose.

Any additional comments?

I recommend this book and probably got more out of it on audible than I would if I had read the story myself.

Worth a listen

Is there anything you would change about this book?

I did find the speed and intensity of the male character falling in love with the female character a little unrealistic.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

I enjoyed the part describing the characters life as a call girl.

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

Yes, pretty good narration and pace

Was The Woman He Loved Before worth the listening time?

Yup, def worth a listen.

Any additional comments?

The narration and wording of the main character's brother was fabulous , his cheeky chapiness really came through, such a delight!

Excellent story read with equally excellent narration

I am new to audiobooks and previously found the narration irritating on books I have listened to. However, this book was read so well telling the story with warmth and depth.
The book content was as expected from Dorothy Koomson, interesting, gripping and believable characters, with twists and turns. Definitely recommend I couldn’t stop listening

great book!

I loved how the plot was not predictable.
One of the best books I have read this year.

I found it odd how all the women felt like they needed to protect Jack from his father; as though he was he was too fragile to handle it.

Moving and wonderful read

This book pulls you in slowly. At first I thought it was just another read - but without realising it I was hooked and wanting to know more - being a diarist myself it throws a completely new twist to the story.

I recommend wholehearted to someone who is looking for a book that they want to enjoy and be involved with the main player and with a great twist in the tale
