About this listen

Who would ruin a good party by stabbing a lawyer in the back?

Jim Walker is a lawyer – one of the best – and he's the type who doesn’t need to practice much law to make a client’s problems disappear. He's a fixer who enjoys the finer things in life, until someone fixes him for good at a posh party in one of Atlanta’s swankiest mansions.

With his newly-formed murder squad now up and running, Chance Meridian quickly learns that Jim Walker knew too many secrets about too many people. People with everything to lose should the truth get out. And while all the guests at the party proclaim their innocence, that math doesn’t add up. Faced with a murderer who may have orchestrated the perfect crime, Chance must outwit the killer before the clock strikes 12 on another victim.

A standalone thriller in the best-selling Atlanta Murder Squad series, To Kill A Lawyer is a diabolical mystery that will keep you guessing until the very end.

Great book

Another great listen from this author. Story was excellent and was kept guessing until the end. Was sceptical at first due to change of narrator from the previous two books but George Newbern was excellent and great with the many voices. I will be listening to the next book in this great series and also more from Mr Newbern (I believe he has narrated at least 300 books! so plenty to choose from). Highly recommend this book.

Chintzy and full of caricatures. Includes an 8ft killer who appears to have been modelled on James Bond’s Jaws

I chose this book because I’d read a previous book by this author called the murder of Sarah Barton. That was an infinitely better book! That was far better written and far more interesting. This one was chintzy in the extreme, like a house full of garish clutter. Packed to the rafters with ridiculous caricatures and one-dimensional characters. In addition there was also an 8 foot silent killer giant who seemed to be based on Jaws from James Bond. Avoid!

The brilliance carries on!

I was sceptical as the narrator had changed and listeners had criticised that fact. I took a chance and carried on listening. Don’t worry! It’s absolutely fine! The narration is great as is the storyline. I’m now starting the next book and can’t wait!

What happened?

I’ve been bed bound for a couple of days so have been binge listening to new titles. I discovered Lance McMillian via the Plus catalogue and really enjoyed the first title in the Atlanta Murder Squad series, so used a credit to buy the second one, also very good.

The let-down came with number 3 and the new narrator, George Newbern. Have the editors never heard the phrase “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it?” What on earth led them to choose such an inferior narrator for the third title?

I’ve just returned it. What a disappointment.
