Summary

When Atlanta police detective Michael Ormewood is called out to a murder scene at the notorious Grady Homes, he finds himself faced with one of the the most brutal killings of his career: Aleesha Monroe is found in the stairwell in a pool of her own blood, her body horribly mutilated. As a one-off killing it's shocking, but when it becomes clear that it's just the latest in a series of similar attacks, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation are called in, and Ormewood is forced into working with Special Agent Will Trent of the Criminal Apprehension Team, a man he instinctively dislikes.

But then, only 24 hours later, the violence Michael sees around him every day explodes in his own back yard. And it seems the mystery behind Monroe's death is inextricably entangled with a past that refuses to stay buried.

Critic reviews

"Rape, murder and mutilation ¿ and that¿s just the beginning of Karen Slaughter¿s Triptych, a standalone thriller from the author of the Grant County series of bestsellers. Here she¿s in even more chilling form as Michael Ormewood, an Atlanta police detective investigate the brutal slaying of Aleesha Moore. The reader, Brian Keith Lewis, is excellent." ( Daily Express)
"Don't read this alone. Don't read this after dark. But do read it" ( Mirror)

Abridged

Although it's not stated, this book is abridged. I felt that the story was too short and too much was missing for this to be enjoyable. Maybe unabridged would be better but there is not one available.

Actually Abridged

The descriptor does not mention that this is an abridged version. This spoils the story, creates continuity problems and, on the whole, makes this a rip-off.

Maybe because it was abridged?

I didn’t realise when I paid full price for this that it was abridged - didn’t realise until I heard the credits. I thought it was pretty awful, disjointed, patchy, badly edited with characters that seemed to change personality to fit the storyline at the time. I actually got half way through and restarted it as it just wasn’t making sense. I won’t be buying another book by this author unless it’s 50p in my local charity shop.

Abridged

very disappointed, I have read the book and this is not the complete story. it doesn't cover how what was really going on with the defence and how John got his revenge.
what a waste of money

Returned

I have read two of the later will Trent books and loved them. It may be the narrator on this one but I just can’t get into it. I’ve returned it.

nice little crime story shame about narrator

the narrators attempt at female voices wasnt great and didnt manage to pull off a sense of seduction or emotion. I didnt buy into ir feel the connection between will and angie because of the narrator . however it was a nice little crime story x

Bokk version is better!

I have read this book before loved it and decided to revisit this series before starting the next one but this audio version is missing huge chunks of the story and therefore made it boring.

Not bad

It's a good story but very slow, hard to get into, wasn't for me.

Love it

Great story although I wish it was the full novel and not a shortened version. Would still recommend. Love all Karin Slaughter books. Great series

Can't go wrong with Karin Slaughter!

Would you listen to Triptych again? Why?

I had already read this book (and most of Karin Slaughter's back catalogue) but my husband wanted a good audiobook so I suggested we start at the beginning! I love the Will Trent series and will happily listen to all of these books more than once. Slaughter's books never hang around, you never feel like they are slow-paced or slow-burners, she hooks you right from the start. The characters are enjoyable and every story is an easy, enjoyable read/listen. Thankfully the narrator was good and didn't have an irritating voice, good performance all round. Would thoroughly recommend, although this is probably my least favourite of Slaughter's books it still kicks the pants off of most other crime writers.
