About this listen
A Lycan descendant of Gilgamesh and Enkidu, Tristan is not as extraordinary as his ancestors. He is an average warrior, unremarkable throughout. But this fact does not trouble him because he has found his Twin Flame, the one person destined to be his, who will love him unconditionally, life after life.
Then his Flame betrays him, leaving him shattered and dying. Brokenhearted, Tristan dissolves the sacred bond and leaves. His best friend, Ushna, accompanies him, vowing to guard and protect him, and Tristan slowly comes to realize love does not require a sacred bond.
But if he hopes to keep the love he chooses, they will first have to survive ancient secrets, lies, mythical creatures, and the return of absent gods....

Stellar narrating by Matt Haynes
I've had the author's other series Valespian pact on my wish list for a good while, but purchased this on the spot after listening to the sample and hearing that heartmelting toe-curling southern accent of Matt Haynes'.
Went in somewhat blind (steamy paranormal werewolf, cheked that there's no mpreg) so was somewhat surprised of the level of heartbreak and angst right from the start. The prologue detailing the origin myth/ tale also went quite over my head with the listing of all these characters doing this and that important stuff.
Had a good time, but won't continue with the story, since I was here mainly for hearing Matt Haynes narrating the bedroom scenes. He was stellar, even though he could've eased a bit on the oomph thrown into the pronunciation of Ushna. Don't particularly enjoy it when books that are part of a great epic are chopped into these (too) short pieces with cliffhanger endings. Also the content warning isn't visible on Audible, but it's on the author's webpage - this series will eventually include mpreg, which is a deal breaker for me.

Promising
This series, this author and the narrator are all new to me. With all that said, this book is interesting. It's a different take on the Lycans lore. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to it. It's got its own twists and turns, but it's all good storytelling. I was hesitant because it's mpreg, but nothing of sorts happens here, yet?
The narrator did a great job with his performance.
Looking forward to more!

Addictive
I wasn't sure about this when I first started, as the prologue was really confusing with too many names and I lost track. I figured I'd let it wash over me and not worry that I had no clue what was going on. This was a good plan as once chapter one rolled around I was hooked. This book was so good! I listened to it all in one go (with a few tea breaks), which is highly unusual for me. The story was really interesting and different, and the chemistry between the two MC was incredible. My favourite part was probably the flirting at the ranch - really sweet, sexy, and funny! Both the author and the narrator were new to me and I'll certainly be looking for more. I'm finding that as I listen to more m/m audiobooks I am becoming very picky with who narrates - I tend to compare the narrator to my top favourites, which is a little unfair but I can't help it! Matt Haynes did a fabulous job here and I'd be more than happy to hear more of his.
A big issue I have with it is that its a HUGE cliffhanger - which I hate. But this can't be helped. So now, of course, I have to get the second one - very clever Lexi Ander!
All in all, a great story with awesome narration. I'd definitely listen again.
