Summary

Ordshaw’s not like other cities. But don’t tell them you know that.

Pax is one rent cheque and six days away from the rough streets of Ordshaw. A big poker score should’ve settled that - if a vagrant hadn’t mugged her and been promptly abducted by spooks.

She’s got connections with the Ordshaw underworld who know how to track people down. But all Pax finds is otherworldly technology and a book of fiercely imagined monsters.

Still, her involvement puts her in the crosshairs of both a shady government Ministry and the thief’s mysterious partners, so she’s got that going for her. Between keeping herself alive and trying to unravel rumours of a subterranean labyrinth, Pax discovers her city hosts a whole other kind of underworld.

People have disappeared simply for discovering what’s lurking under Ordshaw.

To survive, Pax needs to go a lot further than that.

Under Ordshaw is the first entry in a richly imagined urban fantasy series packed with twists and turns, heart-pounding adventure and mercenary fairies that you’ll find impossible to resist. With narration from award-winning actress Fran Burgoyne, once you take your first step into Ordshaw you won’t want to leave!

What reviewers are saying about the Ordshaw series:

"A unique urban fantasy that stands out for its well-rounded characters and disturbing settings…plenty of thrills and mystery to keep the pages turning" (Fantasy Book Critic)

"A gleaming example of what the Urban Fantasy subgenre has to offer" (Whispers and Wonder)

"I was hooked from start to finish." (Lynn's Books)

This ain't no ordinary fairy tale

A tale of modern-day not-London that keeps pulling the rug from you. Taking equal parts Espionage, True Crime and Mythology; Phil Williams has written a masterpiece that Fran Burgoyne narrates beautifully. From the languid tones of Casaria to the sharp violence of Lotte, each character is noticeable not just in their speech but their speech pattern. There's an insight into their different life-paths that draws them together and provides a listen that you will want to order the next one before you've finished this one.

A wonderful treat to those looking for the next binge series. And more cuss words than a Frankie Boyle convention.

Great female characters

A lively and engaging story. Loved the fairies with attitude and the way the narrator brought them all to life. Looking forward to the next instalment.

Engaging escapism beautifully brought to life

There is much to love in this tale of a chance encounter which draws an unlikely heroine into a dangerous netherworld. The adventure unfolds with a strong cast of characters who add lots of subtle humour to the story whether they are likeable or loathsome. The plot is nicely executed with enough twists and turns to keep you on your toes and wanting to find out who really are the good guys and the bad guys. All in all a very enjoyable listen which is masterfully narrated bringing all the characters to life and adding just the right amount of drama - I would pick this in preference to most multi-cast radio dramatisations (and I listen to a lot.) I'm looking forward to the next book to find out what happens next!

interesting new world

From Chapter 1 it is clear that this is not another run of the mill novel. It introduces a completely new world with a fresh set of monsters and good guys(girls). Some complex relationships are developed and story gets a life of its own. Recommend!!!
