About this listen
Brought to you by Penguin.
Tyre destruction, power slides and continuous drooling
Chris Harris has driven more cars than most people could ever dream of. His vast knowledge is legendary. He calls it 'unhinged geekery'. But we call it infectious enthusiasm, adrenaline-fueled escapism and peerless journalistic rigour and integrity.
And then there are his famous skills at the wheel, from city cars to rally cars, F1 to vintage, not forgetting the Guinness World Record 3.4km sideways in an electric car.
And now for the first time, Harris is going all out with that unhinged geekery, and takes us down the road of his life-long adventure with the automobile - from the Scalextric track to the Nürburgring 24 Hour, via his own formative low-powered Somerset version of The Dukes of Hazard.
A highly individual, petrol-soaked life story that's all down to variable valve timings.

Fantastic read.
I love Chris Harris almost as much as he hates himself.
Great book. I blubbed through chapter 5, and guffawed through the rest. Nice to have my suspicions about Chris Evans being a total sausage confirmed.

Can’t help liking Chris more and more!
Written and performed excellently. Not just a Christmas stocking filler like many automotive autobiographical jobs but a genuinely funny, interesting and mature book from someone I have long wished I could bump into so we could talk 80s rally cars over a cider. This book solidifies his status as a car nut and not just a presenter with enough disposable income to like cars. I can’t wait to see what’s next for him, hopefully a couple more books.

A great book, brilliant story, and Chris’ narration makes it very engaging
I’ve listened to this multiple times now. Always been a fan of Chris’ and share his life long love of cars, he has lived a life I’d love to have travelled myself and hearing his short review of the highs and lows has been incredibly interesting, probably one of my favourite books along side the Adrian Newey book, ‘How to build a car’

The single best car journo on the planet
My favourite last line of any book ever written on any subject. Really engaging and honest back story to a genuine petrolheads invention and reinvention. Here’s to all your future successful reinventions.

Fantastic if you love cars, probably if you don’t too
Talent, success and fame aside, I’m delighted to learn I have a lot of important things in common with a “posh prick”.
It’s a fascinating, funny and moving. I can’t help but like and respect the author even more. A sort of automotive Adam Kay
