Story
From the outside, there was no reason to suspect the family life of young schoolchild Keri was anything but unremarkable. Two loving parents, a backdrop of 1960s Britain; life had provided for her, at least with the riches of modesty. Keri herself however, would often confound teachers with her erratic behaviour, which was at best sullen and withdrawn; at worst violently disruptive. When challenged, she would only exacerbate her growing reputation as a fantasist; weaving terrible tales about the "abuse" she was suffering at the hands of her very creators.

Ryan and Phil had always been inseparable. Twins born 35 minutes apart, Ryan was the protective one, constantly looking out for his younger brother. They can't remember how old they were when the abuse started, but they can remember their uncle very clearly. A frequent visitor to their home in Lincoln, he lavished their family with expensive treats. School holidays and weekends were spent visiting him, when he would often take the two little boys aside to play the games he liked. Trapped with him, day after day, year after year, the abuse continued until Ryan and Phil turned 16.

Story
Ellen Boehm, a single mom from St. Louis, Missouri, appeared devoted to her children. But in reality, she was unequipped for motherhood, financially strapped, and desperate. Within a year of each other, her sons, ages two and four, died mysteriously, and Boehm's eight-year-old daughter then suffered a near-fatal mishap when a hair dryer fell into the girl's bath. While neighbors wondered how Boehm remained so calm through it all, Det. Sgt. Joseph Burgoon of St. Louis Homicide had darker suspicions.

Eighteen year-old senior Maggie Brown is the poster child for Heroin Chic, complete with jutting bones and dark-ringed eyes. But drugs are not Maggie's problem; her mother is. Maggie's struggling with her growing feelings for the new guy at school, Seth Prescott, and fears he is just another person who will let her down, like everyone in her life has done so far. Seth Prescott is an undercover cop assigned to Port Fare High, and despite his job, he's developed strong feelings for Maggie.
Summary
In the blink of an eye, Mom ran up behind me and pushed me into the fence. Instinctively, I reached out my arms to stop my fall and ended up grabbing the live fence. My hands clamped around the thin wires, and my body collapsed to the ground as the electricity coursed through it. I opened my eyes and saw my mother standing over me with the strangest smile on her face. "Oh, my God, I’m going to die!" I thought in panic.
Imagine never being able to close your eyes and remember the feel of your mother’s arms wrapped around you. Now imagine closing your eyes and remembering your mother’s tears splashing down on your face as she is on top of you, crying as she is trying to choke you to death. My mother left me these memories and many more during my traumatic childhood. After many years of struggling with trying to understand "Why me?" I took back control of my life and started saying, "It was me, now what am I going to do?"
The answer is my book, "Why Me?" It is my childhood journey through the terrors of physical and mental abuse from first grade until the day I moved out. It is my way of letting the world know what was really going on behind closed doors.

Distressing
Well written and well read but one of the most distressing stories I have listened too. How a mother could be so cruel over such a long time to her own child is beyond me. Why did no other adult in the child’s life not suspect what was going on or the ones that absolutely knew allow it to continue and participate? Just pure evil.

Shocking
I listened to this over two nights and it was harrowing. Although i listen to autobiographies and true crime to drop off to sleep with I do not recommend that you try that with this. I actually had to skip a little (poor goat). The cruelty of this woman was awful. I can not understand how she was allowed to keep her children and why she has not been prosecuted. I am so sorry that Sarah had to go through this.

Good listen
Very unpleasant story but always the kind of thing that needs to be told. It was quite short, but perfectly long enough to satisfy the needs and longer probably would have been too much. It was offensive, but only in the best possible way, since it outlines the depth and breadth of the abuse.

Wow, what a read.
Way Back when I was in middle school, I remember reading, “A Child Named It”. That book stuck with me for life. This book will do the same. What a painful childhood Sarah endured.
This is a Heartfelt read that is a page turner (or quick listen because it’s so tough to hit that pause button.
I was a foster parent for 9.5 years for primarily teenagers. My son that I adopted (at age 13) from foster care was abused while in the system. I’m going to share this book with the social-workers I am in contact with, in hope they recommend it to the kids they are assigned to.
I know my son is going to enjoy reading this.
I recommend this book for ages 12/13 and up.
Love the moral of the story....There is hope. Do not give up. Tomorrow will be better.

Unsatisfactory Ending
This book is frustrating. It will leave you furious with the mother because there is no real ending. It leaves you wanting to find this woman and hand out justice on behalf of this little kid. The fact this woman was allowed to live out her life without some sort of punishment is outright disgusting!!

A very emotional story of abuse that nobody should have to endure. it makes me angry that Sarah's mother never had to pay for what she did to her daughter. I thought the narrator did a great job and put in the right amount of emotion into telling this story.

Wow! Just Wow!
Such a heartbreaking story. I grew up in a very loving home, yet I felt the pain of her abuse as if I experienced it with her. I’m disappointed the abuse went unnoticed by the authorities for 16 years, despite the obvious signs. I was so relieved for the happy ending and how empowered the author has become since escaping the torture. Well done, you’re a scarred, flawed, vulnerable, and beautiful example of a survivor.
