Summary
Why Mummy Drinks is the brilliant novel from Gill Sims, the author of the online sensation Peter and Jane.
It is Mummy's 39th birthday. She is staring down the barrel of a future of people asking if she wants to come to their advanced yoga classes and polite book clubs where everyone claims to be tiddly after a glass of Pinot Grigio and says things like 'oooh gosh, are you having another glass?'
But Mummy does not want to go quietly into that good night of women with sensible haircuts who 'live for their children' and stand in the playground trying to trump each other with their offsprings' extracurricular activities and achievements and boasting about their latest holidays.
Instead, she clutches a large glass of wine, muttering 'FML' over and over again. Until she remembers the gem of an idea she's had....

LOL
Eleventy billion reasons to listen to this book! I was only able to snatch 15 minutes each time to listen to the audio but that was enough to send me off with a giggle or smile.

Really Naff - Dull
I had such high hopes for this - I love the FB page. I'm a full time middle class working Mum - I hoped this book was for me. It was not.
This is basically a re-run of the FB page, made to be a story, which has no real story line and is complete nonsense.
It's starts funny but it's a repeat of the same old stuff and gets boring not exciting. It's ends up being complete rubbish of drunken middle class dribble. The story line with the Eco Sister is horrific and so far fetched.
The book made me want to scream "stand up for yourself woman" about 100 times. You need a bottle of wine to get through one chapter.

Loved this book!
I really liked this book. It is very much a book of today and all the fads discussed are very current. It is just so true though and I identified so much with the characters and the plot. It always seems to occur on train stations for me, I get to a bit that was just so funny I started crying with laughter and people give you very odd stares. Not one to listen to when not wearing headphones as the language is pretty ripe. Being a man, I wondered if Elaine sees her husband in the same way that my wife sees me! If that is the case then - oh dear! I really recommend this if you fancy a good lighthearted listen and the narrator was perfect.
