Blame game

Two chapters in, the author declares that ‘you can blame your parents all you want, being socially awkward is just as much your fault’. The author clearly ignores the fact that the vast majority of people with social anxiety already blame themselves for having it. Realising that it arises from childhood is a big step in recovery, and it does not mean that we are given permission to blame our parents. Instead, it alleviates the blame we have, for too long!, placed upon ourselves. The author of this book actively pushes us back to ‘admitting’ that the bad things that happened to us, and its damaging consequences are our fault. It’s difficult to gain anything from this book when this is a recurring theme. I wish I had ordered a paperback so I could send it back and claim refund.

Very much awful!

If you have a real problem with social anxiety avoid this unscientific, unresearched book which grossly underestimates complexity of this condition and offers simplistic and unhelpful solutions. The author should be shamed for trying to make money from the real suffering of people with this debilitating condition and misguiding them.

Better than I could have ever hoped for!

This is one of, if not the best audio book I have ever purchased. I could relate to 90% of the content and there are a lot of useful tips and strategies given to overcome the issues I face in every day life. This is a book I think most people would benefit from, social anxiety or not. The narrators voice is very calm and easy to understand. It's the sort of book you will re-listen to and refer back to when necessary. 100% would recommend.

Very easy listen, love it and helpful.

Carl's voice is very encouraging and reassuring to listen to. It makes me feel like a friend is telling me "it's ok, you can go out there and do it". Very easy to listen to, glad I came across this book!
