Chris Smith

Hello! Chris here. How are you? Some things about me: I'm a children's author originally from Northamptonshire though I now live in London. I write the Kid Normal series with my friend Greg James - we met when we used to work on the radio together and discovered that we both like coming up with stories. I've wanted to be an author ever since I was small. When I was eight years old I won the H E Bates short story competition with a tale called Where Are the Brandy Snaps? (It was about a small dinosaur who loved brandy snaps.) I won £12.50 in book tokens and spent it on a complete set of the Chronicles of Narnia which still lives in my bookcase. I got the idea for Kid Normal all of a sudden when I was on holiday with my wife and our son. He was going to kids club and was a bit nervous about it in case all the other kids were bigger and better at football. On the plane home the title Kid Normal popped into my head, and the idea of accidentally going to a school for superheroes. When Greg and I sat down in the park and started chatting about it, the whole story just kind of spilled out. What else? I like playing the guitar and would love to make Kid Normal into a musical. I've got a cat called Mabel who loves soup. I also wrote a story for a book called Return to Wonderland, which is about Tweedle Dum and Tweedle Dee. If you listen really carefully to the George Michael song Outside you can hear a sample of me reading the news. We're massively proud of the four Kid Normal stories and we hope you love them too. If you've got any questions then please sing out. We love chatting!
