A good listen

I really enjoyed this audiobook, and, on the whole it was well-read. However, someone should have corrected the incorrectly pronounced words that, for me , slightly took me 'out of the story'. That said, I would recommend it. It's well worth a listen.

Good plot

I enjoyed the storyline of this novel, the characters were relatable. However the narration left a bit to be desired with mispronunciations my favourite being a member of the press corps pronounced corpse. Also the Americanisation is annoying. In the UK emergency vehicles have blue lights and we perform a post mortem not an autopsy petty I know but working in the NHS these things really annoy.

Mispronounced words

This is a very interesting plot, although a little shaky. My biggest bugbear was with the constant mispronunciation of everyday words ie indictment pronounced indict ment. Very irritating, and I found it distracting. I agree with other reviewers vis a vie the accents. They were a bit all over the place. Having said all that, overall it was enjoyable.

Believable characters

The story took me right back to Liverpool in the sixties. I loved the many references and reminders of the great songs that were being played then. The plot unfolded smoothly and sensibly and was well told.

Very enjoyable

I really enjoyed this book. Only a few dodgy moments withe the accent. Some strange long pauses in the narrative, but otherwise a really good listen.

Good tale .Dodgy accents

Interesting tale well worth the listen. Having grown up in Liverpool and still live there I enjoyed the local references . Some of the accents were a bit odd but the tale was strong enough to carry you through without it spoiling anything. All in all very good.

Great Characters - great ending

As others have mentioned the writing in his book does sometimes seem a little amateurish but I found the overall story made this a great listen. By halfway through the book I found myself totally immersed in the story of the main characters and willing them the outcome they deserved. I found the narration only added to the depth of the characters and really brought to life a very emotional end to the book.

Good story terrible dialogue

This is really a book that divides me more than anything I have listened to. On one side you have a good story with interesting characters but it is hugely spoilt by the dialogue of the characters not just the main ones but all of them....if this was a film or a TV show it would be unbearable. I am glad I kept with it but it's a struggle to listen to. It is held together by a good narrator and the descriptive work around the story is good.

This took me so long to get through

The narrator kept pausing in really weird places which held up the story. Some sentences seemed to run on and some seemed to stop in the middle.
I could only listen to this for about 15 minutes at a time in the end because it distracted me so much.

The story itself was okay. Seemed to just tangle itself up only to introduce a character at the last minute which was obviously the murderer.

Slow

This story is told in alternate chapters about a young group of Liverpudlian lads who form a group in the early 1960s and a police investigation in 1999. I enjoyed the memories of the 1960s as I was a young teenager then but overall the story was very slow.
The Liverpo accents were good but the Police Inspector talked so monotously I nearly fell asleep. Also editing was bad due to big gaps of silence between sentences.
