Summary

Essence to gather. Cards to level. A summoner's deck to build.

After the collapse of the known world, Rowan Wilder opened his eyes and found himself on the first floor of the Tower. With a flawless memory and a mere eight cards to his name, he must venture out and prepare himself for the coming calamity.

In this place of blood and fantasy, Rowan has to not only survive, but thrive as he powers his way to the top of the tower. The Demonic Plague that has twisted the creatures on the upper floors is the least of his worries after he reveals the coveted origin of the summoner.

Cane in hand and Summons by his side, he'll have to tear his way through beasts and humans alike as monsters, criminals, and zealots try to hinder his ascent. Of course, he can maintain a sense of decorum while he faces these trials, yeah?

Don't miss the first book in the series A Summoner Awakens, a deck-building LitRPG series utilizing a card-based magic system with loads of customization and steady power progression. Perfect for fans of All the Skills and Towers of Heaven, as well as games such as Slay the Spire, Hearthstone, and Gwent.

Very enjoyable, book 2 pls

Was a little unsure to begin with as It took some time to get used to the voice actor though this improved shortly into the the book, you will see why. Really enjoyed the book and it’s take on a deck building magic system.

Better as the story went on

I was very skeptical that I would finish the book, but it got so much better after the restart. Looking forward to more in the series.

Great fantasy, reincarnation, magic story with a progression system built on card decks.

If you loved the last two All the Skills books, and can’t wait for book three to come out, then, I highly recommend this audiobook, as it’s every bit as good. The characters are well written, with good dialogue and a fun story. The progression system is similar to the one in All the Skills, based on casting magic with card decks, that are hard to obtain. This story is a bit like Tower of God, where card holders wield magic while climbing The World Tower, and the MC has travelled back in time to his youth after his death as an old man to the system demon apocalypse etc. I will definitely be getting book two as soon as it comes out. The narrator is excellent; however, he has a regional English accent, that some Americans might not like. I very much enjoyed the narrator.

Top tier hidden gem - Needs to be talked about

Book 1 was the audio version and I am part way through book 2, currently only available in written form. It’s a meticulously well crafted story, and this gamble has paid off splendidly for me.

The protagonist is compelling, continually drawing me back to his perspective, yet, it's refreshing to also delve into the viewpoints of other characters. The pacing is good, and while I've never been particularly drawn to card-based magic systems, I found the execution here to be extremely well-done.

I was also impressed in book 2 by the author's inclusion of notes and guidance for readers, offering the option to skip over stat readouts—an often tedious aspect of the genre for audiobook listeners. While book 1 didn't necessitate such guidance, it's a thoughtful addition in book 2 that enhances the overall reading experience.

Jeff Hayes's narration skills are undeniable, adding another layer of excellence to this to this unfolding story.

With its potential for significant impact, I foresee this series ascending to the ranks of this genres big stars.

Excellent. Hopefully book 2 will be just as good

Whilst I was confused at first as to why everyone had northern England accents, I gradually found that it fit with the prose of the book well. The book builds to a level of suspense into the middle of the book and simmers quite well until the conclusion at end. Excellent writing. Definitely looking forward to book 2.

Fantastic

Great book, even better audiobook.

Read this book in a day then the following day I decided to give the audiobook a go seeing as its narrated by Jeff Hays and it did not disappoint.

From start to finish the story is great, the characters are interesting and fun, the magic system is interesting and refreshing.

The voices performed by Jeff are exceptional as usual.

Highly recommend
