An excellent progression story!
Really loved this book. Excellent magic/skill system and some great character, world and town building. Found 1 or 2 voices to be a little irritating on the audiobook but easily overlooked with a very interesting story

Battles, upgrades, monsters, war, travel, treasures.
Such an fun read.

Great series start and one of my favourite Narrators
Pavi brings me joy and makes the funny bits funnier. I got book two in 15 min of finishing book 1 and the delay was coz I got a call. I’m heavily invested in this story. Well done first defier- I see why this story was popular on royal road now.

Epic start
this book was so enjoyable I very much enjoyed the book the world is amazing and well done you get pulled in and want to dive deeper into the history and lore about the world the characters are very interesting there’s story’s are great they get more and more interesting as u progress and you see them grow and start to really like them and there storys the writing and narration was done very well i really can’t wait to start the next one

One of the best examples of this genre
I listen to a lot of audiobooks (luck to have the opportunity on my walk to work). This was a bit of a diamond find though be aware that at the moment there are only two books available on audio. Well worth both the credit and the time, you won't regret choosing this one.

Yep, really enjoyable.
A good meaty LitRpg, good story premise, good characters, good story development and more than satisfactory narration, AND, no week long stat recaps. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this title to not only the LitRpg community but to any fantasy/sci-fi listener wishing to dip their toes into the genre.

A truly surprising find
For a lit rpg I usually find that it either insults your intelligence or has seriously lacking characters. Here and there is a shining light. This book contains that light, and it comes from the gleem of nexus crystals!
A whirlwind of a story where hugely complex ideas are simplified and explored by an axe wielding mortal! A truly surprising find and 100% binge worthy

Great story, but in need of a good edit
The story is brilliant, great universe and gripping plot. Characters are interesting, and really fun progression.
Narration is slow... Seriously slow, I needed to crank the speed to 2.2x before it was tolerable.
The writing could have done with a good edit; writing that repeats the same words over and over in the same sentence, is not good writing and needs an edit. This doesn't improve much in the series - so if its the kinda thing that will bug you, and you hope will improve in later books....
