Summary

The next Agatha Raisin mystery from 23 million copy-selling author M. C. Beaton, the Queen of Cosy Crime, about an eccentric Cotswolds-based detective with an erratic love life and a penchant for G and Ts . . .

Agatha and her assistant, Toni, are driving to their friend Bill Wong's wedding, thinking of nothing more than what the beautiful bride will be wearing when a terrified young man comes running down the country lane towards them wearing. . . nothing at all.

The encounter leads them to become embroiled with a naturist group, a disappearing corpse, fantasy games, witchcraft, an ice cream empire, intrigue and murder. In the meantime, Agatha's hectic life swirls along at dizzying pace, her private detective agency as busy as ever and her private affairs in turmoil - old loves to contend with and a new suitor on the scene.

Then she finds herself in deadly danger when she begins to close in on a suspected murderer and the sinister nature of the ice cream business leads her to a chilling conclusion.

Great book with a few rushed parts

Another great Agatha Raisin mystery, love the extra details and descriptions but sometimes these are overly repetitive (using the exact wording as previous books and the same book over and over), and this one felt like a bit of a rushed ending.

Character distortions : Green vs. MC Beaten

I feel that R.W Green does slightly distort the characters a little. This time he managed to balance Agatha’s hard forthright personality with care and understanding, without being so mushy; like the previous book. I felt the representation of Agatha was true to Beaten’s creation. I feel he distorted Charles character altogether, making him into a sexual predator, looking at every opportunity (and in some incidences creating opportunities) to have sex with Agatha. Charles is a serial bachelor and does shy away from all commitment. But his long relationship with Agatha had been one of mutual benefit (casual and agreeable). Of course Charles is rather emotionless and take the transaction of sex without any thought for repercussions which does not mix with Agatha’s never-ending plight for romance and picture-perfect marriage. But in the later books Agatha was cautious of this but not to the extent she felt she had to beat Charles of with a stick. Also the idea of Charles putting £20 in an honesty box and stating he had overpaid but it was worth it: was completely at odds with his tight-fisted character. In this instance he would have normally forgone the honesty box or attempted to make Agatha pay. Also the last book was left on the notion of rekindling the relationship with James but this was forgotten about for most of the book and crammed into the last few lines of the story. Although I like that Green stayed true to creation and reminded the reader that James is a very difficult, stubborn (and selfish?) personality.

I love Agatha and her investigations. I liked the premise of the story.
But I do miss our dear MC Beaten she has such finesse and ability to add just the gentlest seeds of character, personality and circumstance to leave the reader room to question and expand. However it feels like Green has got a few headlines of character traits and run with them. But MCBeaten spent years perfecting this characters and I can’t help but notice those differences in story and writing. At least I feel this story was more true to Agatha.

Very enjoyable listen

Another Agatha Raisin read by the wonderful Penelope Keith.
Yes, some phrases and situations are familiar, but R.W. Green produced another good story. I loved being back in Carsley!

WOW! AGATHA IS MOST DEFINITELY BACK!

Was unsure if I would enjoy the Agatha Raisin stories, written by a new author! but I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed this book! R.W Green has successfully picked up the baton and Agatha is back with a bang, and in very safe hands! Brilliant!

Devilishly Delightful!

All the humour with the thrills & spills we've come to expect from this series. Penelope Keith couldn't be surpassed as the voice of Agatha Raisin.
Can't wait for the next installment!
