Summary
When Mark Shillingford commentates on a race in which his twin sister Clare, an accomplished and successful jockey, comes in third, he can't help but be suspicious. As a professional race-caller, he knows she should have won. Did she lose on purpose? Was the race fixed? Why on earth would she do something so out of character?
That night, Mark confronts Clare with his suspicions, but she storms off after an explosive argument. It's the last time Mark sees her alive. Hours later, Clare jumps to her death from the balcony of a London hotel ... or so it seems.
Devastated by her death, and almost overcome with guilt, Mark goes in search of answers. What led Clare to take her own life?
Or was it not suicide at all ... ?

Good set-up and tension in the plot
Not as well conceived as Dick Frances’s stories but engaging. Narration good with characterisation but the volume changes from loud to barely audible so very frustrating, as I had to back up all the time to relisten or turn volume down to save my ears.

suspenseful to the very end
although some of the characters were a little predictable, the plot is unique and well paced throughout. the main character's nack of being able to recover from serious injury ready to work and sleuth are a little unrealistic but overall a really riveting expertly told story

Brilliant book
I loved this book from the first page, it is a brilliantly written tale. Is his sister bad or are there mitigating circumstances. It holds the answers till the end. If you love the horse world and are intrigued by racing and how do they loose without everyone knowing how they do it without the stewards being aware???? There are the tense moments when we dont want the hero to be hurt and how he avoids it. Hard to review this book as I dont want to spoil it for anyone that wishes to read this book. Felix I feel you will surpass your father with your novels and I look forward to the next book you write. Did not want it to end.

I don't like this narrator
Great story as ever from the Francis family. It had to be good to keep me listening to the narrator! Way too dramatic intonation for me, making the volume shift from inaudible to deafening. Shame, as his voice and character voices are good. If only the wonderful Tony Britton was still alive....this narrator sould listen to Tonys reading to see how it should be done.

The narrator needed a little more passion
I love all the Dick /Felix Francis books, but the narrator sounded so deadpan, even when he reached a critical part of the story. yes he gave you the impression this part was important because he raised his voice and spoke quicker but.....
