Summary
A revealing memoir and empowering manifesto - a voice for generations.
Rose McGowan was born in one cult and came of age in another more visible cult: Hollywood.
In a strange world where she was continually on display, stardom soon became a personal nightmare of constant exposure and sexualisation. Rose escaped into the world of her mind, something she had done as a child, and into high-profile relationships. Every detail of her personal life became public, and the realities of an inherently sexist industry emerged with every script, role, public appearance, and magazine cover. The Hollywood machine packaged her as a sexualized bombshell, hijacking her image and identity and marketing them for profit.
Hollywood expected Rose to be silent and cooperative and to stay the path. Instead, she rebelled and asserted her true identity and voice. She reemerged unscripted, courageous, victorious, angry, smart, fierce, unapologetic, controversial, and real as f*ck.
Brave is her raw, honest, and poignant memoir/manifesto - a no-holds-barred, pull-no-punches account of the rise of a millennial icon, fearless activist, and unstoppable force for change who is determined to expose the truth about the entertainment industry, dismantle the concept of fame, shine a light on a multibillion-dollar business built on systemic misogyny, and empower people everywhere to wake up and be Brave.
Includes two original songs by Rose McGowan.

Be brave
Thought provoking life story to take heed of. Very brave of her to tell her story so openly, for all women to strive to be stronger in life and live to the full, without men pushing the down.

All power to Rose!
Everyone should read/listen this book! It'll make you feel uncomfortable at times, but imagine how Rose has actually gone through all that crap.
Rose has a pleasant voice to listen to so thank goodness she did not outsource the narration. :)
What a story and what a woman!

Stunning! almost on a par with slaughterhouse 5.
I became aware of Rose after seeing her on Jimmy Dore show on youtube. A great interview.
This book is amazing. Its a razor sharp analysis of cults and in particular the cult of personality and celebrity that dominates America.
As a white male I was hesitant to buy this as I thought it would be another "Men are awful" "down with the patriarchy" diatribe.
There are elements of that but the book has a more matter of fact tone rather than spitting with rage. The rage is still there but its controlled. There is also an element of survival through using men.
This book is more balanced and more sophisticated than simplistic messages. This book is grounded in reality of her life experience. Men (and women) are capable of great evil but that is not the whole story.
A fascinating inside look into the propaganda machine that is Hollywood.
I would love to see Rose talk to Noam Chomsky about propaganda and Jordan Peterson about the psychology of cults.

Rose’s story is incredible and emotional. Her recount of traumatic experiences is very moving, sad and shocking.
It shines a light on the horrors of Hollywood
She acknowledges her own Privilege although she has gone through so much.
Very beautifully done.
